WARRANTY

Wakespeed Warranty Policy

This warranty policy applies to Wakespeed products supplied by us in Australia through authorised dealers, resellers, distributors, or approved sales channels. It applies to the original end-user purchaser of the product, as evidenced by the authorised dealer’s, reseller’s, or distributor’s invoice, and is not transferable without written consent.

Wakespeed products supplied by us are covered against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service, subject to the terms and conditions below. The benefits given by this warranty are in addition to any other rights and remedies available under law.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Warranty Coverage and Periods

This warranty covers Wakespeed alternator regulators, charge-control products, wiring harnesses, temperature sensors, CAN cables, communication cables, and related Wakespeed accessories supplied by us. The warranty periods for each product model range are as follows:

  • WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator: 24 months from the original date of purchase. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal recommended use.
  • WS500 Pro Bluetooth® Alternator Regulator: 24 months from the original date of purchase. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal recommended use.
  • Wakespeed wiring harnesses, temperature sensors, CAN cables, communication cables, and related accessories: 24 months from the original date of purchase, where supplied as genuine Wakespeed products by us. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal recommended use.

Commencement of Warranty: The warranty period begins on the date of purchase by the original end-user, as shown on the authorised dealer’s, reseller’s, or distributor’s invoice. A valid proof of purchase from an authorised sales channel is required for all warranty claims.

Installer Responsibilities and System Design

Wakespeed products are intended to be installed, connected, programmed, configured, and integrated into a broader alternator charging system, vehicle, vessel, electrical system, battery system, or power-management installation. Once installed, the product may form only one component of a larger system.

The installer, system designer, integrator, dealer, or end-user is responsible for ensuring that the product is suitable for the intended application and is installed, configured, protected, and operated correctly. Issues or damage arising from incorrect installation, poor system design, incorrect configuration, incompatible equipment, inadequate protection, unsuitable mounting, or failure to follow instructions are not product defects and are not covered by this warranty.

  • Appropriate Installation: Wakespeed products must be installed in accordance with the product manual, supplied installation instructions, applicable Australian Standards, relevant marine, automotive, electrical, or industry standards, manufacturer specifications, and recognised industry best practice. Improper, unsafe, unlicensed, sub-standard, or non-compliant installation may void or limit warranty coverage.
  • System Compatibility: The installer or integrator is responsible for selecting and using compatible alternators, batteries, battery management systems, shunts, sensors, wiring harnesses, chargers, inverters, fuses, circuit breakers, isolators, communication devices, software, firmware, and other connected equipment. Damage or underperformance caused by incompatible, incorrectly configured, undersized, oversized, unsuitable, or improperly installed equipment is not covered by this warranty.
  • System-Wide Performance: Overall system performance depends on system design, alternator capacity, battery chemistry, battery condition, wiring, configuration, firmware, protection devices, ventilation, temperature, operating loads, and usage conditions. This warranty covers the quality of the individual Wakespeed product supplied by us only. It does not guarantee the performance of the broader charging system into which the product is installed or integrated.
  • Installation Location and Mounting: The installer must ensure that products are mounted, located, supported, separated, ventilated, protected, and fixed in a manner suitable for the installation environment. Allowance must be made for heat dissipation, vibration, moisture exposure, corrosion risk, electrical clearance, mechanical loading, fire safety, and access for inspection and servicing. Damage caused by unsuitable mounting, inadequate clearance, inadequate support, inadequate ventilation, or unsuitable installation location is not covered by this warranty.
  • System Protection and Fault Isolation: The installer must incorporate suitable protective devices and design measures, including where applicable fuses, circuit breakers, isolators, over-current protection, over-temperature protection, alarms, fault monitoring, correct wire sizing, correct configuration settings, and appropriate separation between components. Damage to Wakespeed products caused by inadequate system protection, poor fault isolation, incorrect protection settings, or missing safety devices is not covered by this warranty.

Service Accessibility Requirement: Products must be installed in a manner that allows reasonable access for inspection, testing, servicing, removal, and replacement. We are not responsible for additional labour, structural modification, access equipment, removal of fixtures, cabinetry, panels, flooring, trim, sealants, adhesives, or other costs arising from installation methods that restrict reasonable access to the product.

Installation Documentation: We may require documentation of the installation when assessing a warranty claim. This may include photos of the product in its installed location, wiring diagrams, system layout, serial numbers, details of connected equipment, installer details, commissioning records, service history, fault logs, operating settings, firmware details, and maintenance records. Failure to provide reasonable installation evidence may limit our ability to assess the claim.

Independence of Dealers and Installers: Authorised dealers, resellers, distributors, installers, and contractors act independently and are not agents, employees, or representatives of Wakespeed or us unless expressly agreed in writing. We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, workmanship, advice, representations, installation practices, or system design decisions of independent dealers, resellers, installers, contractors, or third parties.

Warranty Exclusions

This warranty covers manufacturing defects or failures of the product arising from normal use in accordance with Wakespeed instructions. It does not cover any failure, damage, performance issue, deterioration, or loss caused wholly or partly by external factors, misuse, incorrect installation, incorrect configuration, or circumstances outside the control of the product supplier or manufacturer.

  • Improper Installation or Handling: This warranty does not cover damage or malfunction caused by incorrect installation, incorrect wiring, incorrect mounting, incorrect configuration, failure to follow the product manual, failure to follow applicable standards, insufficient support, inadequate ventilation, unsuitable mounting surface, incorrect tools, improper connections, mishandling during installation, or damage during removal or reinstallation unless removal was expressly authorised as part of the warranty process.
  • Misuse, Abuse, or Neglect: This warranty does not cover use for purposes the product was not designed for, use outside product specifications, physical abuse, dropping, crushing, impact, mechanical damage, overloading, excessive duty cycle, careless handling, neglect, deliberate damage, or continued use after a fault becomes apparent.
  • Unauthorised Modification or Repair: This warranty may be void if the product has been modified, altered, disassembled, opened, repaired, reprogrammed, refinished, or tampered with by anyone other than an authorised service provider. This includes opening sealed components, breaking warranty seals, removing tamper-evident labels, changing firmware or software without authorisation, replacing parts with non-original parts, or modifying wiring, casing, fittings, connectors, or mounting hardware.

Examples include over-voltage, over-current, incorrect alternator polarity selection, incorrect battery profile, incorrect firmware or software settings, poor load management, insufficient ventilation, insufficient protection devices, cascading damage from another component, failure of another component causing damage to the product, or damage caused to other components due to incorrect system design or lack of isolation.
  • Lack of Required Maintenance: Products must be maintained, inspected, cleaned, updated, tightened, calibrated, or tested where required by the manual, product type, or normal industry practice. Warranty may be void or limited where failure is caused by lack of reasonable maintenance. Normal wear and tear, gradual degradation, consumable wear, or performance decline consistent with normal use is not considered a defect.
  • Serial Number Removed or Tampered With: Where applicable, the product’s original serial number, batch number, compliance label, rating label, or identification marking must remain intact, legible, and unmodified. Removal, defacement, alteration, or tampering with product identification may make the product ineligible for warranty service.
  • Unauthorised Resale or Non-Authorised Dealer Purchases: This warranty applies only to genuine new Wakespeed products sold through authorised dealers, resellers, distributors, or approved channels. Products purchased second-hand, from unauthorised marketplaces, auctions, liquidation sales, parallel imports, grey-market sellers, or unapproved channels may not be covered.
  • Industrial, Commercial, or Abnormal Applications: Unless expressly approved in writing, this warranty applies to products used in normal recommended applications. Use in heavy industrial, mining, hire fleet, continuous-duty, high-cycle, commercial, public infrastructure, emergency-service, or other high-stress environments may be excluded or subject to a separate warranty.
  • Overseas Sales and Importer Responsibility: Unless otherwise agreed in writing, this warranty applies to products sold and used within Australia. Products exported, resold, installed, or used outside Australia may be covered only by any applicable voluntary manufacturer warranty and may not receive the benefit of Australian Consumer Law. For products located outside Australia, all shipping, freight, customs duties, taxes, and associated costs relating to warranty assessment, repair, or replacement are the responsibility of the customer, importer, distributor, or reseller unless otherwise agreed in writing.
  • Other Exclusions: This warranty does not cover damage, loss, or failure caused by accident, collision, fire, explosion, vandalism, theft, natural disaster, Force Majeure events, acts of God, misuse by third parties, unauthorised installation, transport damage after delivery, or events beyond reasonable control. To the extent permitted by law, this warranty does not cover consequential or incidental loss, including damage to other equipment, loss of revenue, loss of profit, loss of data, loss of use, labour for removal or reinstallation, travel time, accommodation, freight not approved in advance, hire equipment, access equipment, structural modification, personal injury, property damage, or economic loss.

Making a Warranty Claim

Important: If you suspect a fault with a Wakespeed product supplied by us, do not immediately remove or uninstall the product unless it is unsafe to leave it in place or unless authorised by us, Wakespeed, or an authorised dealer. Premature removal can cause further damage, prevent proper assessment, and may make it impossible to determine the original cause of the issue.

  1. Contact the Dealer or Reseller: Warranty claims should be initiated through the authorised dealer, reseller, distributor, or place of purchase. The customer should provide proof of purchase, product model, serial number if applicable, description of the issue, photos or videos of the fault, installation photos, details of connected equipment, installation date if known, and service or maintenance history if relevant.
  2. Provide Product Information: The customer must provide the product model, serial number, invoice details, installation information, firmware or software details where relevant, and a clear description of the issue. The description should include when the issue started, how the issue appears, whether the issue is intermittent or constant, any warning lights, error messages, fault codes, noises, smells, overheating, visible damage, and any troubleshooting already performed.
  3. Assessment and Troubleshooting: The dealer, reseller, distributor, Wakespeed support team, or our support team may conduct an initial assessment. This may involve asking the customer or installer to perform safe checks, provide measurements, test the product in a different configuration, inspect connections, provide fault logs, confirm firmware or configuration settings, or confirm installation details.
  4. Photographic Evidence: The customer may be required to provide clear photos of the product before removal. Photos may include the product in its installed location, mounting points, surrounding area, wiring, harnesses, connectors, fuses, circuit breakers, sensors, labels, serial numbers, visible damage, signs of overheating, corrosion, contamination, water ingress, debris or impact, and the overall system layout.
  5. Return for Testing, Repair, or Inspection: If the fault cannot be confirmed by correspondence, photos, or remote troubleshooting, the product may need to be returned for inspection, testing, repair, or replacement assessment. Return instructions and any required return authorisation will be provided before the product is sent. Unless otherwise agreed, the customer is responsible for safely packaging the product and returning it to the place of purchase or nominated assessment location. Transit damage caused by poor packaging is not covered by this warranty.
  6. Evaluation and Outcome: Once received, the product will be inspected and tested to determine whether the fault is covered by this warranty. If the fault is confirmed to be due to a manufacturing defect or covered failure, an appropriate remedy will be provided. If the product is found not to be faulty, or the issue is caused by an excluded factor, the claim may be rejected. The customer and dealer will be informed of the outcome.

Remedies Under Warranty

If a defect covered by this warranty is confirmed, one or more of the following remedies may be provided at the discretion of the assessing party and subject to applicable law:

  • repair;
  • replacement;
  • refund;
  • credit;
  • supply of replacement parts;
  • another appropriate remedy required by law.

Repair: If the defect can be resolved by repair, the product or relevant components may be repaired by Wakespeed, an authorised service provider, or another approved party. Any replaced components become the property of the repairing or replacing party unless otherwise agreed.

Replacement: If the product or major component is not reasonably repairable, a replacement may be provided. The replacement may be the same model, a superseded equivalent, a product with similar specifications, a new unit, or a refurbished or factory-reconditioned unit where permitted by law. Where a replacement is provided, the faulty product becomes the property of the replacing party unless otherwise agreed.

Refund or Credit: In some cases, a refund or credit may be provided. Refunds will usually be handled by the original place of purchase. The refund amount will not exceed the original purchase price paid for the affected product unless otherwise required by law.

No Charge for Approved Claims: For approved warranty claims, the repair, replacement, refund, or approved remedy will be provided at no charge to the customer. If a product is specifically requested to be returned for assessment and the product is found to have a covered defect, reasonable return freight or supply of the repaired or replacement item back to the customer, dealer, or reseller will be covered where required by law or agreed in writing.

No Extension of Original Warranty: Repair or replacement under this warranty does not restart or extend the original warranty period. The warranty continues from the original purchase date. For example, if a product with a 24-month warranty is replaced in its second year, the replacement product is covered only for the remaining balance of the original 24-month warranty period.

Ancillary Parts for Approved Warranty Repairs: If a warranty claim is approved and it is determined that replacement connectors, wiring, harnesses, mounting hardware, fasteners, or similar ancillary items are reasonably required to restore the product to normal operation, those items may be supplied at no cost. This does not include labour, removal, reinstallation, access equipment, structural modification, or costs associated with restricted access unless expressly required by law or agreed in writing.

Limit of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, liability under this warranty is limited to the repair, replacement, refund, credit, or approved remedy relating to the defective Wakespeed product supplied. Neither Wakespeed nor we are responsible for special, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from product failure, installation issues, misuse, system design, or breach of warranty.

This includes, to the extent permitted by law, third-party labour, removal or reinstallation costs, travel costs, freight not approved in advance, access equipment, structural modification, loss of revenue, loss of profit, downtime, loss of use, damage to other equipment, property damage, personal injury, loss of data, or economic loss.

Nothing in this warranty excludes, restricts, or modifies any rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.
