RV & Caravan Solar Panel Comparison Tool

RV & Caravan Solar Panel Comparison Tool

Compare solar panels for your caravan, RV or off-grid setup

Use the search and filters below to narrow the list by brand, panel type, wattage, maximum dimensions and weight. Select Compare on up to four products for a side-by-side view. Show bundles and Include Out of Stock reveal more options, while Full Screen Mode gives you more room to review the table.

Start by measuring the usable mounting space. Use our RV solar roof layout tool to position panels around roof vents, hatches and other obstructions. Then check the panel's Voc, Vmp and Isc against your solar charge controller's limits. Select a product name for its full specifications, price and current availability.

How to choose the right solar panel for a caravan, RV or off-grid system

Finding a solar panel for a caravan roof, camper trailer, motorhome, 4WD, boat or compact off-grid battery system is rarely just a matter of choosing the highest wattage. The panel must fit the available space, stay within the installation's weight limits and match the electrical requirements of the solar charge controller. Use the selector above to compare our range of off-grid solar panels by the measurements and specifications that matter to your installation.

Start with the space available on the roof

Measure the usable mounting area rather than the total roof area. Allow for roof hatches, air conditioners, aerials, vents, cable entry points, mounting hardware and any space required by the panel manufacturer's instructions. On a crowded caravan or motorhome roof, a narrow solar panel that fits between obstructions may be more useful than a higher-powered panel that cannot be positioned safely.

Enter your maximum length and width in millimetres to find solar panels that fit the space, then use the maximum weight filter if roof load or pop-top lifting weight is important. Remember that the listed panel weight does not include brackets, adhesive, cabling or other installation hardware. If you are comparing panels specifically for a recreational vehicle, browse our caravan, camper and RV solar panels as well.

Choose between fixed, flexible and portable solar panels

The best panel construction depends on how and where it will be used:

  • Fixed glass solar panels are a common choice for permanent installations on caravans, motorhomes, sheds and off-grid systems. They use a rigid frame and need a suitable mounting method. See our fixed and rigid solar panels.
  • Flexible and lightweight solar panels can suit weight-sensitive roofs, pop-top caravans and surfaces where the selected panel and its installation instructions permit some curvature. Mounting and ventilation requirements vary, so check the product instructions and our flexible solar panel mounting guide before installation. Compare our lightweight solar panels for the available space.
  • Portable folding solar panels can be moved into better sunlight while the caravan, camper trailer or 4WD remains parked in shade. They also need storage space, appropriate cabling and a compatible connection to the charging system. Browse our folding and portable solar panels.

Compare watts, voltage and current—not only panel dimensions

Watts describe the panel's rated power under its specified test conditions, but the electrical values determine whether it can be used with a particular controller and array design. Vmp is the voltage around the maximum power operating point, Voc is the open-circuit voltage and Isc is the short-circuit current. Our guide to understanding solar panel specifications explains these ratings in more detail.

Confirm the controller's permitted solar input voltage, current and power for the battery voltage being used. The complete array—not only one panel—must remain within those limits. Series connections increase array voltage, while parallel connections increase array current, and environmental conditions can affect the final design margins. Use our solar panel wiring guide to understand the options, then follow the specifications for your exact controller and panels.

How many solar panel watts does a caravan need?

There is no single wattage that suits every caravan solar setup. The useful panel capacity depends on daily energy use, battery capacity and chemistry, location, season, available sun, shade, panel orientation and how quickly the batteries need to recover. A smaller panel may suit battery maintenance or modest loads, while a larger roof array may be appropriate for longer off-grid stays and higher daily energy use.

Use the minimum and maximum power filters to compare suitable sizes. You can also browse solar panels up to 100W, 101W to 200W solar panels or reviewed solar panel kits and bundles. If you are expanding an existing system, read our guide to adding a second solar panel to a caravan before mixing panels or changing the array wiring.

Solar panels for caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, 4WDs and boats

A good caravan roof solar panel may need compact dimensions and low weight. A camper trailer solar panel may need to pack away for travel. A motorhome roof can have irregular gaps between equipment, while a 4WD roof-rack installation needs careful attention to dimensions, mounting and wind exposure. Marine and boat solar panels also need an installation approach appropriate to the environment and mounting surface. The filters make it easier to compare products for these different constraints without assuming that one panel type suits every application.

Solar panel selector frequently asked questions

How do I find a solar panel that fits between caravan roof vents?

Measure the maximum usable length and width between the obstructions, including the clearance required for mounting and servicing. Enter those measurements into the filters above. Check the product page before ordering because the installation footprint can be larger than the panel itself once brackets and cable access are included.

What does “12V solar panel” mean?

A panel described for a 12V application does not produce a fixed 12V output. Its Vmp and Voc will be higher and will vary with operating conditions. Match the published panel specifications to a compatible solar charge controller and battery system rather than relying on the “12V” description alone.

Can I connect different solar panels together?

Sometimes, but differences in voltage, current, power and cell behaviour can reduce performance or make a proposed connection unsuitable. Series and parallel arrays behave differently. Check every panel and controller specification, the array design and the wiring protection before adding a different panel to an existing caravan or off-grid solar system.

Should I choose a flexible or fixed solar panel for a pop-top caravan?

Compare the roof's weight limit, lifting effort, available dimensions, surface, mounting method and the panel manufacturer's requirements. A lightweight panel can reduce added roof mass, while a rigid framed panel may suit a different mounting arrangement. Choose from the measured installation constraints, not the panel label alone.
