Caravan Solar Roof Layout Builder: Plan Solar Panels Before You Buy
Map roof dimensions, vents, air conditioners and other obstructions, then compare solar panel placement before ordering your caravan solar equipment.
Available roof area is often the real limit on a caravan solar upgrade. Nameplate wattage alone does not tell you whether panels will fit around an air conditioner, hatches, vents, aerials and the clearances needed to install them. The free Caravan Solar Roof Layout Builder lets you test that geometry before ordering.
Build a scaled roof plan, add obstructions and compare panel arrangements on the canvas. You can then review the proposed system and use the resulting parts list as a starting point for product selection.

What to measure before opening the tool
Measure the usable roof length and width, then record the position and footprint of every fixed obstruction. Include items that may not look important from the ground: hatch lids when open, plumbing vents, antenna movement, curved roof edges, existing cable entries and safe working clearances.
- Overall usable roof length and width.
- Location and size of air conditioners, hatches, skylights and vents.
- Areas affected by curves, seams, roof ribs or manufacturer restrictions.
- A practical route from the panel array to the cable entry and charge controller.
Follow the built-in tour
Use the question-mark tour button in the header to step through roof settings, the panel and obstruction controls, the layout canvas, selected-item controls, project actions and the final review. The tour also introduces the image diagram and, when available, the complete parts view.
The highlighted canvas step is especially useful because it connects the measurements on the left with the scaled plan on the right. You can replay the tour at any time.
Turn a roof sketch into a shopping shortlist
Enter the roof dimensions first, add the fixed obstructions and only then begin placing panels. Try more than one orientation where the roof construction and panel instructions allow it. Compare not only total wattage, but also access for mounting hardware, cable routing and future maintenance.
A layout confirms physical fit; it does not by itself confirm energy yield or electrical compatibility. Use the Solar Sizing Calculator to estimate daily energy needs, then confirm panel voltage, current, string arrangement and charge-controller limits before buying.
Shop the matching equipment
Use the plan to narrow your shortlist, then check the current product specifications and installation requirements:
