DESCRIPTION
Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-Tr VE.CAN: Advanced Solar Charge Controller for 12V, 24V, and 48V Systems
Maximise Solar Yield with Ultra-Fast MPPT Technology
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-Tr VE.CAN is a high-performance solar charge controller engineered for demanding off-grid and hybrid energy systems. Its ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm continuously adjusts to changing light conditions, boosting energy harvest by up to 30% compared to traditional PWM controllers and up to 10% over slower MPPT designs. This is especially valuable under Australia’s variable cloud cover, where rapid tracking ensures your batteries receive maximum available power throughout the day.
With a 70 A rated charge current and support for 12V, 24V, and 48V battery banks (auto-selected), this controller handles substantial solar arrays—up to 4000 W at 48V. The 150 V maximum PV open-circuit voltage allows longer series strings, reducing wiring costs and simplifying installation in larger setups.
Intelligent Partial Shading Optimisation
Partial shading from trees, antennas, or nearby structures can create multiple power peaks on a solar array’s voltage curve. Conventional MPPT controllers often lock onto a local peak, missing the true maximum power point. Victron’s proprietary algorithm scans the entire curve to always lock onto the optimal MPP, maximising energy yield even in less-than-ideal roof layouts.
High-Efficiency, Fanless Design
With a peak conversion efficiency exceeding 98%, the SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 operates silently without a cooling fan. This fanless architecture enhances reliability, reduces maintenance, and eliminates noise—ideal for installations in living spaces, vehicles, or marine environments. Full rated output is maintained up to 40°C, with intelligent power derating at higher temperatures to protect internal components.
Flexible Charging and System Integration
The controller offers a fully programmable charge algorithm via the VictronConnect app, plus eight pre-programmed battery presets selectable by a rotary switch. An internal temperature sensor automatically compensates absorption and float voltages, promoting longer battery life. For advanced system integration, the built-in VE.Can port enables synchronised parallel operation of up to 25 units, while VE.Direct provides a wired connection to GX monitoring devices or PCs. A programmable relay and remote on/off terminal allow seamless interaction with external systems like a VE.BUS BMS.
Built-in Bluetooth and Smart Monitoring
Integrated Bluetooth Smart eliminates the need for external dongles. Use the free VictronConnect app on your smartphone or tablet to configure settings, monitor real-time performance, and update firmware. Historical data logging helps you track energy production and system health over time.
