DESCRIPTION

HellermannTyton RD1-6 Double Grip Pre-Insulated Ring Terminal: Reliable Connections in High-Vibration Environments

Engineered for Secure, Long-Lasting Electrical Terminations

The HellermannTyton RD1-6 pre-insulated ring terminal is designed to deliver consistent, low-resistance connections in demanding applications. Its double grip crimp system provides dual contact points on the conductor and insulation, ensuring superior mechanical strength and electrical integrity, especially in environments subject to constant vibration and movement.

Manufactured from high-conductivity copper with a durable PVC insulation sleeve, this terminal is colour-coded red for quick identification of 0.5–1.5 mm² conductors. The flared entry barrel simplifies wire insertion, reducing installation time and the risk of strand damage. With a 6.4 mm stud hole, it fits M6 fasteners commonly found in automotive, marine, and industrial control panels.

Why the Double Grip Design Matters

Unlike standard single-crimp terminals, the double grip feature isolates the mechanical strain on the insulation from the electrical crimp on the conductor. This separation minimises the risk of wire fatigue and breakage at the crimp point, a common failure mode in high-vibration settings such as engine bays, machinery, and mobile equipment. The result is a more robust termination that maintains performance over the product's service life.

Key Features

  • Double grip crimp profile for enhanced vibration resistance and strain relief
  • Colour-coded red PVC insulation for fast, error-free size selection
  • Flared barrel entry for effortless wire insertion and reduced installation effort
  • High-purity copper construction for maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance
  • 600 V maximum voltage rating suitable for a wide range of low-voltage DC and AC circuits
  • 19 A current rating for reliable power handling in control and signal wiring

Built for Tough Conditions

The vinyl insulation is rated for continuous operation at +75 °C, making it suitable for under-bonnet automotive wiring, enclosed industrial cabinets, and other elevated-temperature environments. The seamless three-piece manufacturing process ensures a consistent wall thickness and dielectric strength, reducing the risk of insulation breakdown over time. These terminals are also RoHS compliant, meeting environmental standards for restricted substances.

Applications

Ideal for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike, the RD1-6 ring terminal is commonly used in:

  • Automotive and marine electrical systems, including engine sensors, lighting, and accessory circuits
  • Industrial control panels and machinery where vibration is present
  • Solar and battery installations requiring secure M6 stud connections
  • General low-voltage wiring projects demanding a reliable, insulated termination

For best results, use with the recommended HellermannTyton HYYT7 crimp tool, which is engineered to produce a precise double crimp without damaging the conductor or insulation. Proper crimping ensures the full mechanical and electrical performance of the terminal.

Note: Maximum current rating is based on standard conditions; typical de-rating factors apply for elevated temperatures, bundling, and continuous load scenarios.
