Blue Sea 40A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 40A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Ignition Protected, Weatherproof Housing & Manual Reset Lever

DESCRIPTION
Heavy-Duty 40A Circuit Protection and Switching for Harsh Environments
The Blue Sea 187-Series 40A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers dependable overcurrent protection and manual switching in a single, compact unit. Engineered specifically for demanding marine, RV, caravan, and off-grid DC electrical systems, this breaker safeguards your wiring and high-draw appliances from damaging short circuits and thermal overloads. By combining switching and circuit protection into one device, it eliminates the need for separate inline fuse holders and isolation switches, streamlining your electrical board layout and reducing potential points of failure.
Engineered for Marine Safety and Durability
When installing electrical components in enclosed engine bays, battery lockers, or marine compartments, safety is paramount. This 40A thermal circuit breaker is fully ignition protected, making it safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats where stray sparks from standard, unsealed electrical components could ignite fuel vapours. Furthermore, its robust, weatherproof housing protects the internal thermal trip mechanism against moisture, salt spray, dust, and vibration, ensuring long-term operational integrity across harsh Australian conditions.
Key Features and Benefits
- Dual-Function Design: Combines reliable 40A thermal overcurrent protection with manual on/off switching capabilities in one robust unit.
- High-Visibility Reset Lever: Features a bright yellow actuator lever that provides clear visual indication of the circuit status (tripped or closed) and allows for quick manual resets or circuit isolation.
- Ignition Protected: Safe for installation in marine engine compartments and spaces housing petrol fuel systems.
- Weatherproof Construction: Sealed housing resists moisture and dust ingress, making it ideal for exposed marine decks, 4WD canopies, and camper trailers.
- Heavy-Duty Stud Terminals: Large threaded studs accommodate heavy-gauge ring terminals, ensuring low-resistance, high-current connections that resist loosening under vibration.
- Simple Surface Mounting: Integrated mounting holes allow for straightforward installation onto flat panels, bulkheads, or battery distribution boards without requiring complex panel cutouts.
Superior Reliability Over Standard Fuse Holders
Unlike single-use blade or MIDI fuses that require spare parts to restore power after an overload fault, this resettable surface mount circuit breaker allows you to quickly troubleshoot the issue and restore power with the flip of a lever. Compared to inferior, unsealed breakers that are prone to premature tripping due to ambient heat, voltage drop, or terminal corrosion, the Blue Sea Systems 187-Series maintains strict calibration and firm contact pressure. The trip-free design also ensures the internal contacts cannot be manually held closed during an active fault condition, significantly reducing the risk of cable overheating or electrical fires.
Ideal Applications
This 40A breaker is exceptionally versatile and suited to a wide range of 12V, 24V, and 48V DC electrical installations:
- Main circuit protection for auxiliary battery systems in 4WDs, caravans, and motorhomes
- Protecting high-current marine accessories such as bilge pumps, winches, and bow thrusters
- Isolating DC-DC chargers, solar charge controllers, and inverter feed lines
- Heavy-duty automotive, commercial vehicle, and off-grid power distribution boards
Upgrade Your Electrical Protection
Ensure your mobile or marine power system is protected against unexpected electrical faults. Add the Blue Sea 187-Series 40A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your installation for dependable, resettable circuit protection.
