DESCRIPTION
Stäubli MC4 Evo 2 Solar Connectors: High-Performance Photovoltaic Couplers
Industry-Leading Reliability for Commercial and Off-Grid Solar
When constructing a photovoltaic array, the integrity of your DC connections is paramount. The Stäubli MC4 Evo 2 Solar Connector Pair delivers an exceptional standard of performance, designed to handle the rigorous demands of modern 1500V DC solar systems. Whether you are wiring a large-scale commercial solar farm or configuring an off-grid caravan setup, these genuine Stäubli MC4 connectors ensure optimal energy transfer and long-term durability. Rated for up to 1500V DC, this connector pair significantly reduces the risk of arc faults and system degradation common with generic alternatives.
Advanced MULTILAM Contact Technology
At the core of the MC4 Evo 2 connector is Stäubli's proprietary MULTILAM technology. This innovative contact system utilises specially formed, resilient contact elements that maintain constant pressure between the mating surfaces. The result is consistently low contact resistance (under 0.2 mΩ), which minimises power loss and prevents dangerous heat buildup over the lifespan of your installation. For systems operating under continuous high loads, this engineering approach delivers superior efficiency and thermal stability compared to standard stamped contacts.
Engineered for Harsh Australian Environments
Solar installations are frequently exposed to extreme environmental stressors. The Evo 2 MC4 connector is heavily fortified against these conditions, featuring robust UV resistance and a high IP65 and IP68 ingress protection rating (1 hour at 1 metre submersion). Additionally, these connectors are rigorously tested for salt mist spray and ammonia resistance, making them highly suitable for coastal, marine, and agricultural applications where corrosion is a primary concern. The high-grade polyamide (PA) insulation material also meets stringent UL94-V0 flammability standards.
Versatile Cable Compatibility and Current Ratings
This MC4 connector pair accommodates standard solar cable cross-sections of 4.0mm2 to 6.0mm2 (approx. 12 AWG to 10 AWG) with an outer cable diameter range of 6.4mm to 8.4mm. Engineered to handle high current, the system supports rated currents up to 45A for 4.0mm2 cables and up to 53A for 6.0mm2 cables. *Note typical de-rating factors apply. The crimp termination ensures a highly secure, gas-tight mechanical and electrical connection when installed with appropriate tooling.
Reducing Installation Risks
Using generic or mismatched components in a solar array is a leading cause of DC arc faults and premature system failures. By standardising your installation with the Stäubli MC4 Evo 2, you mitigate these severe risks. These precision-engineered couplers are specifically designed to mate perfectly with other components in the Stäubli family, ensuring a seamless, weather-tight seal that eliminates moisture ingress. This level of quality control reduces the likelihood of intermittent faults and minimises long-term maintenance requirements, providing peace of mind for both installers and system owners.
