DESCRIPTION
Genasun GVB-8: Advanced MPPT Boost Solar Charge Controller for 12V Lead-Acid Systems
High-Efficiency Voltage Boost Technology for Off-Grid and Mobile Applications
The Genasun GVB-8 MPPT boost solar charge controller is engineered for applications where the solar panel voltage is lower than the battery voltage. Unlike conventional controllers that step down voltage, this unit actively boosts input from panels as low as 5V to efficiently charge a 12V lead-acid battery. This capability unlocks significant system design flexibility, allowing the use of a single large, cost-effective panel instead of multiple smaller panels wired in series, reducing overall system cost and complexity.
Designed and manufactured in the USA, the GVB-8 is built for mission-critical reliability in the harshest environments. From remote scientific installations to marine and mobile platforms, its robust construction and advanced MPPT algorithm ensure consistent energy harvest under dynamic conditions.
Ultra-Fast MPPT: 15 Hz Tracking Speed
Standard MPPT controllers often employ a slow "sweep and sleep" method, scanning the panel's power curve every 30 to 60 seconds. This approach is adequate for stationary panels under steady sunlight but falls short in mobile or variable weather scenarios. The Genasun GVB-8 redefines responsiveness with a 15 Hz MPPT tracking speed, adjusting to changing light conditions 15 times per second. This ensures the controller is always locked onto the maximum power point, capturing energy that slower controllers miss during cloud transients or when mounted on moving vehicles such as RVs, boats, and expedition trucks.
Precision 3-Stage Charging with Temperature Compensation
Battery longevity and performance depend heavily on correct charging. The GVB-8 employs a computer-controlled, temperature-compensated 3-stage charging profile tailored for lead-acid chemistry. This precise regulation prevents overcharging, minimises gassing, and maintains optimal battery capacity over hundreds of cycles. The controller also features a trickle charge function to recover deeply discharged batteries from as low as 0V, a critical feature for unattended systems.
Key Features
- Voltage Boost Topology: Charges 12V lead-acid batteries from panels with Voc as low as 5V, enabling use of high-current, low-voltage panels.
