Genasun 58.4V 8A Waterproof MPPT Boost Charge Controller

Genasun 58.4V 8A Waterproof MPPT Boost Charge Controller

DESCRIPTION

Genasun 58.4V 8A Waterproof MPPT Boost Solar Charge Controller

The Genasun GVB-8-WP 58.4V lithium boost charge controller is designed for solar systems where the panel voltage is lower than the battery voltage. Instead of requiring multiple smaller solar panels wired in series, this waterproof voltage-boosting MPPT controller steps solar input up to suit a 52V nominal, 14S lithium-ion style battery system with a 58.4V CC/CV charge profile.

It is a compact, potted solar regulator for applications such as e-bikes, small EVs, golf carts, marine systems and other mobile installations where space is limited and the controller may be exposed to moisture. The official GVB-8-WP platform is IP68 rated and uses 12 AWG tinned flying leads with an in-line fuse holder for practical installation in demanding DC systems.

Boost charging for higher-voltage lithium battery banks

Most solar charge controllers reduce panel voltage down to the battery voltage. The GVB-8-WP works the other way, making it well suited to 52V nominal lithium battery packs that need charging from a lower-voltage solar panel. For this 58.4V lithium variant, the official Sunforge documentation identifies the model as suitable for 52V, 14S Lithium Cobalt/Manganese/Nickel battery systems and lists a 58.4V CV voltage.

This makes it a strong choice when a single practical solar panel needs to contribute daily charge to a compact high-voltage battery system without building a higher-voltage solar array.

Key features

  • Voltage-boosting MPPT design: Steps lower solar panel voltage up to charge a higher-voltage battery pack.
  • 58.4V lithium charge profile: CC/CV profile for compatible 52V nominal, 14S lithium-ion type batteries.
  • 350W maximum recommended panel power: Supports up to 350W on the Li-58.4V-WP variant when input limits are respected.
  • Waterproof potted construction: IP68 rated enclosure with electronics encased in potting compound for moisture-exposed installations.
  • Fast MPPT response: 15Hz MPPT tracking speed helps the controller respond to changing light conditions.
  • Low self-consumption: 5mA night consumption listed for the Li-58.4V-WP model.

Designed for mobile and compact solar installations

The GVB-8-WP is especially useful where panel area, wiring simplicity and environmental exposure matter. A roof-mounted panel on a cart, small EV, marine fit-out or e-bike charging setup can feed the controller while the Genasun boost stage handles the voltage conversion. The waterproof enclosure, tinned leads and no-fan design keep the installation simple and robust, with no moving parts in the controller.

A built-in multicolour LED provides run, charge and error indication, giving quick visual feedback during setup and operation. The controller is also specified with 99+% typical tracking efficiency and 96% to 99% typical electrical efficiency for the Li-58.4V-WP variant.

Important system design notes

Battery compatibility should be checked against the battery manufacturer’s charge specifications before installation. Genasun states that lithium systems should use a battery management system capable of disconnecting the controller if any cell is outside its rated temperature, current or voltage range. Solar panel open-circuit voltage must remain below the controller’s maximum input voltage, including cold-weather voltage rise.

For compact high-voltage lithium solar charging where a waterproof step-up MPPT controller is required, the Genasun GVB-8-WP 58.4V model provides a purpose-built solution with clear specifications, efficient conversion and a practical installation format.
