Genasun 50V 8A GVB-8-WP Lithium MPPT Boost Charge Controller

Genasun 50V 8A GVB-8-WP Lithium MPPT Boost Charge Controller

DESCRIPTION

Genasun GVB-8-Li-50.0V-WP Waterproof Lithium MPPT Boost Charge Controller

The Genasun GVB-8-Li-50.0V-WP is a compact waterproof MPPT boost solar charge controller designed for 12S lithium-ion, LiPo, LiCoO₂, lithium manganese or lithium nickel battery systems requiring a 50.0V CC/CV charge profile. Unlike standard solar regulators that step panel voltage down to suit a lower-voltage battery, the GVB-8-WP boost series is designed to step lower solar panel voltage up for higher-voltage battery charging.

This makes it a practical solution for small electric vehicles, golf carts, e-bikes, marine systems, industrial equipment and other compact solar applications where roof or deck space may suit a single lower-voltage solar panel. The controller is rated for 8A panel input current and this 50.0V lithium model supports a maximum recommended panel power of 325W, subject to the panel voltage and current limits in the official specifications.

Designed for Higher-Voltage Lithium Charging

The 50.0V model is listed by Sunforge for 36V nominal, 12S lithium cobalt, manganese or nickel systems and is supplied with a CC/CV lithium charge profile. Battery temperature compensation is disabled for the lithium models, which is appropriate for the specified lithium charging profile. As with any lithium charging equipment, the battery pack specification must match the controller CV voltage before installation.

Genasun’s high-speed MPPT tracking is designed to adapt quickly to changing solar conditions. The official documentation lists a 15Hz MPPT tracking speed, 99+% typical tracking efficiency and strong low-light performance, making the GVB-8-WP well suited to mobile and outdoor systems where shading, movement and panel angle can change throughout the day.

Waterproof, Compact and Built for Mobile Systems

The GVB-8-WP series uses a potted construction and is rated IP68 waterproof. The current version, starting from serial number 188100, uses 12 AWG tinned flying leads that are pre-stripped for installation. The controller also includes an external 10A in-line fuse rated for the maximum battery voltage, with the manual noting that 36V and 48V nominal versions require a fuse with a higher voltage rating than typical 32V automotive fuses.

  • Boost MPPT design: Allows a lower-voltage solar panel to charge a higher-voltage lithium battery system.
  • 50.0V CC/CV output: Intended for 12S lithium-ion, LiPo, LiCoO₂ and related lithium chemistries listed by the manufacturer.
  • 325W recommended panel power: Supports practical solar input sizing for compact EV, marine and mobile charging applications.
  • IP68 waterproof protection: Potted construction is suited to exposed or moisture-prone installations.
  • Fast tracking: 15Hz MPPT tracking helps the controller respond to changing solar conditions.

Installation Notes and Use Cases

The controller is negative common, with the negative panel and negative battery cables internally connected. Loads should be connected directly to the battery, as the GVB-8-WP does not provide over-discharge protection. The manual also states that the solar panel should generally be connected only to the GVB-8-WP and that the controller will not operate without a battery connected.

With a small enclosure size of 140 x 81 x 55mm and a 290g product weight, the GVB-8-WP suits space-limited builds where a larger solar regulator is difficult to mount. It is a strong match for 12S lithium battery systems on compact vehicles, marine electronics projects and specialised off-grid equipment where boost charging is required rather than conventional buck charging.

Choose the Genasun GVB-8-Li-50.0V-WP where a compact, waterproof 50.0V lithium boost MPPT controller is needed to make better use of available panel space in a higher-voltage solar charging system.
