Balmar 12V 100A 60 Series Alternator, 3.15in Saddle Mount, Isolated Ground (No Pulley)
Balmar 12V 100A 60 Series Alternator, 3.15in Saddle Mount, Isolated Ground (No Pulley)
Compact High-Output Charging for 3.15in Hitachi-Style Mounts

DESCRIPTION
High-Output 60 Series 12V 100A Marine and Off-Grid Alternator
Upgrading your vessel's charging system is essential when managing large house battery banks and demanding DC loads. The 60 Series 100A 12V Alternator is built to deliver high-amperage charging performance where standard automotive units fall short. Featuring a 3.15in (approx. 80mm) Hitachi-style dual-foot saddle mount and an isolated ground configuration, this high-output alternator provides reliable energy generation for recreational marine and off-grid applications.
Designed for Recreational Applications
Standard automotive alternators are designed primarily to maintain a starting battery and handle intermittent loads. The 60 Series is part of Balmar's 6-Series, which delivers high output in a compact, small-case package with dual fan cooling and a high airflow frame. Balmar designs its 6-Series alternators for recreational applications and describes them as ideal for modest charging upgrades. Its Smart Ready internal regulator may be sufficient where battery loads are relatively small and the engine runs frequently. For larger deep-cycle battery banks, or where the engine runs less often (as on most sailing vessels), pair it with a Balmar ARS-5 or Max Charge multi-stage regulator.
Isolated Ground Protection for Marine Vessels
In marine environments, electrical integrity is critical. This unit features an Isolated Ground (IsoGrd) design, meaning the alternator's internal ground circuit is completely separated from its outer aluminium casing. Using an isolated ground alternator prevents stray DC currents from travelling through the engine block and hull, effectively mitigating the risk of galvanic corrosion, electrolysis, and damage to sensitive onboard electronics.
Key Features and Benefits
- 100A Output at 12V: Delivers substantial charging current to rapidly replenish depleted auxiliary and house battery banks, reducing engine runtime.
- 3.15in (Approx. 80mm) Saddle Mount: Hitachi-style dual-foot mount, typical for Yanmar, Westerbeke, Lehman and Perkins-Sabre engines.
- Isolated Ground Architecture: Dedicated positive and negative terminal posts prevent stray current corrosion in metal-hulled vessels and composite marine installations.
- Customisable Drive Interface: Supplied bare (without a pulley) to suit 17mm bore pulleys, allowing you to configure the exact belt profile required for your specific engine setup.
Important Exclusion: Pulley Sold Separately
To ensure seamless integration with various engine belt configurations, this alternator is supplied without a pulley. Depending on whether your engine utilises a traditional V-belt or a modern multi-rib serpentine conversion, you must select and install one of the compatible 17mm bore pulleys listed below:
- B-61-0010: Pulley, Single V, 2.7in x 1/2in (Approx. 68.6mm x 12.7mm) DeepV, 17mm Bore
- B-61-0020: Pulley, Dual V, 2.7in x 1/2in (Approx. 68.6mm x 12.7mm) DeepV, 17mm Bore
- B-61-0070: Pulley, K-6 2.45in (Approx. 62.2mm) Serpentine 6-Rib, 17mm Bore
- B-1310: Pulley, K-8 2.4in (Approx. 61mm) Serpentine 8-Rib, 17mm Bore, Short (STD)
Upgrade Your Auxiliary Charging System
Whether you are refitting a cruising yacht or building a custom auxiliary charging system, the 60 Series 100A Alternator delivers the electrical stability and durability your battery bank requires. Pair this unit with the appropriate 17mm bore pulley for your engine drive and secure dependable DC power generation for your next voyage or off-grid project.
