Blue Sea SPDT ON-OFF-ON Three-Position Panel-Mount Switch, Black

DESCRIPTION

Reliable Three-Position Marine Control with Ignition Protection

The Blue Sea Systems SPDT ON-OFF-ON Panel-Mount Switch (BS-8283B) is engineered to deliver dependable, multi-circuit control in demanding marine and off-grid environments. Featuring a Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) configuration, this rocker switch allows operators to seamlessly alternate between two distinct circuits from a single common source, with a positive centre OFF position to completely isolate the load. Specifically manufactured for integration into Blue Sea Systems water-resistant Contura panels, it provides a clean, professional finish for any helm or custom electrical dashboard.

Engineered for Harsh Marine Environments

Standard automotive switches frequently fail when exposed to coastal conditions due to rapid corrosion of internal contacts and brittle plastics. This Blue Sea Systems rocker switch solves these reliability issues through specialised marine-grade construction. It is rigorously tested to withstand extreme vibration, physical shock, thermoshock, moisture ingress, and corrosive salt spray. When installed correctly with its integrated weatherproof mounting gasket, it maintains the water-resistant integrity of your switch panel, significantly reducing the risk of short circuits and premature component failure in open cockpit vessels or rugged 4WD setups.

Critical Safety for Petrol Vessels

Electrical arcing inside a standard switch can be a severe hazard when flammable fumes are present. This switch features an enclosed, ignition-protected housing that strictly complies with both UL1500 and ISO8846 safety standards. This critical engineering feature ensures that the switch is entirely safe for installation aboard petrol-powered (gasoline) boats, including near bilge areas, fuel tank compartments, and engine bays where vapour accumulation is a known risk.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Versatile SPDT Switching: The three-position ON-OFF-ON action is ideal for controlling dual-function equipment without needing multiple switches.
  • Certified Ignition Protection: Meets UL1500 and ISO8846 standards, making it safe for use in petrol-powered marine vessels and hazardous locations.
  • Superior Environmental Resistance: Built to endure constant vibration, shock, thermoshock, moisture, and salt spray for long-term durability.
  • Tactile Rocker Actuator: Features a black rocker face with clear white position indicator bars for easy status identification at a glance.
  • Streamlined Installation: Equipped with three rear-facing quick-connect blade terminals for straightforward wiring and secure electrical connections.
  • Seamless Panel Integration: Designed specifically to snap into Blue Sea Systems water-resistant panels with an integrated gasket seal.

Typical Applications

The ON-OFF-ON configuration makes this switch indispensable for a wide variety of marine and mobile 12V or 24V electrical systems. Common applications include:

  • Navigation and Anchor Lights: Easily switch between running lights (ON), all lights off (OFF), and anchor light only (ON).
  • Bilge Pump Control: Toggle between manual override operation, complete system isolation, and automatic float switch mode.
  • Dual Battery or Tank Monitoring: Select between two separate auxiliary battery banks or fluid tank senders on a single gauge.
  • Windshield Wipers: Control two-speed wiper motors (Low, Off, High) on boats, RVs, and heavy machinery.

Upgrade your vessel or off-grid vehicle's electrical system with a switch built to handle the elements. Select the Blue Sea Systems BS-8283B SPDT switch today for safe, reliable control across your critical circuits.
