Blue Sea SPDT ON-OFF-ON Contura Switch, Grey
Blue Sea SPDT ON-OFF-ON Contura Switch, Grey
Ignition Protected (ON)-OFF-ON Marine Rocker Switch - UL1500/ISO8846

DESCRIPTION
Heavy-Duty Marine Rocker Switch for Water-Resistant Panels
The Blue Sea SPDT ON-OFF-ON Contura Switch is a rugged, industrial-grade control component engineered specifically for demanding marine, 4WD, and off-grid electrical installations. Designed to integrate seamlessly into Blue Sea Systems water-resistant panels, this single pole, double throw (SPDT) switch features a versatile (ON)-OFF-ON three-position configuration. Note that brackets around an action denote a momentary position: the switch provides a momentary contact in the first position, a stable centre off, and a maintained latch in the opposite position. This makes it an ideal choice for dual-mode circuits such as bilge pumps (manual momentary override vs. automatic float switch operation), windscreen wipers, or navigation light configurations.
Engineered for Harsh Marine and Off-Road Environments
Standard automotive switches frequently succumb to corrosion, contact failure, and water ingress when exposed to coastal air or rough corrugations. The Blue Sea Contura series mitigates these risks through dedicated environmental sealing and robust internal construction. Built with an integrated mounting gasket, the switch resists high-pressure washdowns, heavy salt spray, and relentless moisture when properly mounted in a compatible panel.
Furthermore, its internal mechanism is tested against extreme vibration, physical shock, and thermoshock. Whether mounted in an exposed centre console boat helm experiencing rapid temperature shifts or a touring canopy subject to severe off-road vibrations, this Contura rocker switch maintains reliable electrical continuity and crisp tactile actuation.
Certified Ignition Protection for Petrol Vessels
Electrical arcing inside an unsealed switch housing presents a significant hazard in enclosed spaces where flammable fumes may accumulate. This Blue Sea Contura switch is fully ignition protected, complying with stringent UL1500 and ISO8846 safety standards. It is safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats, engine bays, and battery compartments, offering peace of mind for marine electricians and vessel owners alike.
Key Features & Benefits
- Versatile (ON)-OFF-ON Action: Combines momentary and maintained switching in a single SPDT housing for complex circuit control.
- Certified Ignition Protected: Meets UL1500 and ISO8846 requirements, reducing fire risks in petrol-powered marine vessels and fuel storage areas.
- Extreme Environmental Resistance: Engineered to withstand constant exposure to salt spray, moisture, severe vibration, mechanical shock, and thermoshock.
- Ergonomic Contoured Actuator: The grey rocker features tactile horizontal ridges for confident, slip-free operation in wet conditions or low visibility.
- Streamlined Installation: Equipped with rear blade terminals for standard quick-connect electrical wiring and an integrated gasket for a watertight panel seal.
Practical Applications in 12V and 24V Systems
While purpose-built to snap directly into Blue Sea Systems water-resistant Contura panels, this switch is equally suited to custom marine dashboards, caravan control hubs, and 4x4 dual battery canopies utilising standard rectangular rocker cutouts. The rear blade terminals accept standard female quick-connect spade connectors, simplifying wiring harnesses and allowing for straightforward maintenance or replacements in tight console spaces.
