Blue Sea DPDT Contura Switch, Three-Position (ON)-OFF-(ON), Grey

DESCRIPTION

Heavy-Duty Momentary Marine Rocker Switch for Water-Resistant Panels

The Blue Sea Systems 8222B Contura Switch is a purpose-built, marine-grade electrical component designed for reliable circuit control in harsh environments. Featuring a Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) configuration with a (ON)-OFF-(ON) momentary action, this switch returns to the central off position when released. It is specifically manufactured to snap securely into Blue Sea Systems water-resistant Contura panels, providing a seamless, weatherproof interface for your vessel or off-grid vehicle.

Engineered for Harsh Marine and Off-Road Environments

Standard automotive switches often fail prematurely when exposed to coastal air, heavy washdowns, or constant corrugated road vibrations. The Blue Sea Contura series solves this problem by incorporating internal and external seals alongside corrosion-resistant materials. Designed to withstand extreme vibration, mechanical shock, thermoshock, moisture, and salt spray, it reduces the risk of electrical shorts, corroded terminals, and unexpected system failures when you are far from shore or off the beaten track.

Safety is critical in enclosed marine engine bays and fuel storage areas. This switch is fully ignition protected, complying with strict UL 1500 and ISO 8846 standards. This makes it safe for installation aboard petrol-powered (gasoline) boats, ensuring that internal switching arcs cannot ignite surrounding flammable vapours.

Key Features and Benefits

  • DPDT (ON)-OFF-(ON) Momentary Action: Spring-loaded return-to-centre mechanism ideal for precise, temporary activation of dual-direction loads.
  • Ignition Protected: Meets UL 1500 and ISO 8846 requirements for safe operation on petrol-powered vessels and near fuel systems.
  • Environmental Resilience: Built with a specialised sealing gasket to resist salt spray, moisture ingress, thermoshock, and heavy vibration.
  • Panel-Mount Design: Integrated mounting tabs ensure a secure fit into Blue Sea Systems water-resistant panels.
  • Secure Electrical Connections: Equipped with rear spade terminals for dependable DPDT wiring and circuit integration.

Ideal Applications for DPDT Momentary Switching

A Double Pole Double Throw momentary switch is exceptionally versatile for complex DC electrical systems. Because the (ON)-OFF-(ON) brackets indicate momentary operation in both directions, it is commonly wired to reverse polarity or control two separate circuits temporarily. Typical applications include:

  • Anchor Windlasses and Winches: Safely control up and down operations without the risk of leaving the motor engaged.
  • Trim Tabs and Hydraulic Jack Plates: Make precise, momentary adjustments to vessel trim and engine height.
  • Motorised Actuators and Hatches: Operate engine bay hatches, slide-outs, or linear actuators requiring forward and reverse polarity control.
  • Dual Windscreen Wiper Controls: Manage intermittent or wash/wipe functions across twin marine wipers.

Upgrade Your Electrical Control Panel

Whether you are fitting out a new marine dash, replacing a worn actuator switch on your boat, or building a custom water-resistant switch panel for an expedition vehicle, the Blue Sea 8222B delivers dependable performance. Complete your electrical installation with a switch engineered for safety and longevity in Australian conditions.
