Blue Sea 350A Red e-Series 3 Position (OFF/1/2) Battery Selector Switch w/ AFD

DESCRIPTION

Essential Battery Selection with Alternator Protection

Managing multiple battery banks on a boat or heavy-duty vehicle requires robust switching gear. The Blue Sea e-Series 3 Position Battery Selector Switch provides a reliable method to switch a single load group between two isolated battery sources. Whether you need to reserve a dedicated starting battery or cycle between two house banks, this switch offers clear, tactile control without the risk of accidental parallel connection.

Unlike standard selectors, this model includes Alternator Field Disconnect (AFD) capabilities. This critical feature protects your vessel's charging system during operation, safeguarding against costly alternator diode failure if the switch is accidentally turned to the 'OFF' position while the engine is running.

Protect Your Alternator with AFD Technology

One of the most common risks in manual battery switching is the accidental disconnection of the battery while the alternator is charging. This creates a voltage spike—often called a load dump—that can instantly destroy the rectifier diodes in your alternator.

The integrated AFD feature solves this problem. It disconnects the alternator field wire slightly before the main battery circuit opens, ensuring the alternator stops generating power before the load is removed. This simple yet effective mechanism provides peace of mind for boat owners and prevents expensive repairs to charging components.

Built for Harsh Marine Environments

Designed for the demanding conditions of the Australian marine environment, the e-Series switch features tinned copper studs for maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance. The casing is ignition protected, making it safe for installation on gasoline-powered boats where fuel vapours may be present.

With a maximum voltage of 32V DC, this switch is perfectly suited for 12V and 24V systems found in yachts, 4WDs, and caravans. The robust design handles significant power demands:

  • Continuous Rating: 325A
  • Intermittent Rating: 600A (5 minutes)
  • Cranking Rating: 1200A (30 seconds)

Installation Flexibility and Compatibility

Retrofitting or installing a new system is straightforward thanks to the versatile case design, which allows for either surface or rear panel mounting. The switch fits standard industry mounting patterns, making it an easy upgrade for older equipment.

For heavy-duty cabling, the switch accommodates large lugs with 3/8"-16 (Approx. M10) terminal studs. The housing provides ample clearance for cables up to 4/0 AWG (Approx. 120mm²), ensuring you can maintain low voltage drop across your system.

Key Features

  • 3-Position Operation (OFF/1/2): Selects between two battery sources for a single load without combining them.
  • Alternator Field Disconnect (AFD): Protects alternator diodes if the switch is turned off while the engine is running.
  • High Current Handling: Supports 325A continuous and 1200A cranking loads.
  • Ignition Protected: Safe for use in engine rooms and fuel lockers.
  • Versatile Mounting: Surface or rear panel mount with 1/4" (Approx. M6) mounting holes.
  • Corrosion Resistant: Tinned copper studs and reinforced polycarbonate housing.

Reliable Power Control for Your Setup

Whether you are outfitting a cruising yacht or upgrading a touring 4WD, proper battery isolation is key to system reliability. The Blue Sea e-Series switch ensures you have power when you need it, protecting both your batteries and your charging infrastructure.

Equip your vessel with professional-grade power management. Secure your Blue Sea e-Series Battery Selector Switch today.
