DESCRIPTION

Reliable Electrical Insulation and Mechanical Protection for Exposed Panel Backs

ABYC Compliant Rear Enclosure for Marine, Caravan, and Off-Grid Distribution Panels

In marine vessels, caravans, and custom off-grid setups, electrical distribution panels are frequently flush-mounted into bulkheads or cabinetry where the rear terminals protrude directly into storage lockers. The Blue Sea Systems AC Isolation Panel Protective Cover (BS-4026B) is engineered to solve this critical safety hazard. It provides robust electrical insulation and mechanical shielding for exposed panel backs, preventing accidental contact with live AC terminals and protecting delicate wiring from shifting cargo.

Designed to cover panels or electrical components measuring up to 5-1/4 x 3-3/4 x 3 in (Approx. 133 x 95 x 76mm), this compact enclosure ensures your power distribution system remains safe, compliant, and dependable even in high-vibration mobile environments.

Engineered for Compliance and Risk Reduction

When combining AC and DC electrical systems within the same distribution board or confined space, strict safety standards apply to prevent dangerous electrical faults and shock hazards. This isolation cover specifically meets ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) requirements for panels with combined AC and DC loads. By fully encapsulating the rear of the AC section, it eliminates the risk of loose gear, tools, or stray wires bridging live terminals in tight lockers.

Compared to makeshift enclosures or leaving panel backs exposed, installing a dedicated Blue Sea protective cover significantly reduces the risk of short circuits, electrical fires, and damaged connections caused by stowed equipment pressing against the rear wiring harness.

Key Features and Benefits

  • ABYC Compliant Safety: Meets stringent safety requirements for electrical panels combining AC and DC circuits, ensuring peace of mind during marine surveys and system inspections.
  • Customisable Wire Routing: Constructed from a lightweight, durable textured polymer that can be easily drilled or modified on-site to create custom wire entry and exit points tailored to your specific loom layout.
  • Mechanical Shielding: Protects rear circuit breaker terminals, busbars, and ring terminals from physical impact and abrasion in crowded storage lockers and utility spaces.
  • Integrated Mounting Flanges: Features a sturdy perimeter flange with pre-drilled mounting holes for straightforward, secure installation over the rear of your panel.
  • Versatile Sizing: Accommodates panel backs and other exposed electrical objects up to 5-1/4 in long x 3-3/4 in wide x 3 in deep (Approx. 133 x 95 x 76mm).

Built for Custom Installations

Every electrical installation presents unique cable routing challenges. Rather than forcing cables through fixed knockouts that may not align with your conduit or trunking, the drillable side walls of the BS-4026B allow installers to position entry holes exactly where needed. This flexibility supports cleaner cable management, maintains proper bend radii for heavy-gauge AC wiring, and simplifies both new builds and retrofits.

Ideal Applications

  • Insulating the rear of marine AC distribution panels protruding into boat lockers or console spaces
  • Protecting combined AC/DC switchboards in caravans, motorhomes, and camper trailers
  • Shielding exposed terminal blocks, relays, or electrical components in service vehicles and off-grid power cabinets

Upgrade Your Electrical System Safety

Ensure your AC installation meets professional safety standards and remains protected from accidental damage. Add the Blue Sea AC Isolation Panel Protective Cover to your build today for a clean, compliant, and secure electrical setup.
