Blue Sea 80A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 80A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Ignition Protected with Manual Reset Lever & Stainless Steel Studs

DESCRIPTION
Heavy-Duty 80A DC Circuit Protection and Switching for Marine and Automotive Systems
The Blue Sea 187-Series 80A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker combines reliable overcurrent protection and intuitive manual switching into a single, durable unit. Designed specifically for demanding DC electrical systems, this 80A breaker safeguards your wiring and high-draw appliances from thermal overload and short circuits. Whether you are wiring a commercial marine vessel, a recreational boat, a 4WD dual battery setup, or an off-grid caravan power system, the 187-Series delivers consistent, professional-grade electrical safety.
Engineered for Harsh Environments and Petrol Engine Bays
When working with high-current DC systems, using inferior electrical components can lead to voltage drop, nuisance tripping, or dangerous overheating. The Blue Sea 187-Series solves these issues with precision thermal trip mechanisms and robust construction. Crucially, this unit is certified ignition protected, meaning it will not ignite surrounding flammable gases if a spark occurs internally. This makes it completely safe for installation in the engine compartments of petrol-powered boats, as well as near battery banks and LPG storage areas in RVs and camper trailers.
Key Features and Technical Benefits
- Combined Switching and Protection: Functions as both an 80A overcurrent circuit breaker and a master disconnect switch, reducing the need for separate switches and fuse holders.
- High-Visibility Status Lever: The large yellow reset lever provides an immediate visual indication of the circuit status (tripped or closed) and allows for effortless manual tripping when isolating equipment for maintenance.
- Heavy-Duty Stainless Steel Terminals: Built with corrosion-resistant stud terminals designed to securely accommodate heavy-gauge battery cables and high-current lugs without stripping or overheating.
- Ignition Protected Construction: Safe for installation aboard petrol-powered vessels and in enclosed spaces where explosive fumes may be present.
- Secure Surface Mounting: Features integrated mounting holes for straightforward, rigid installation directly onto flat electrical panels, bulkheads, or battery boxes.
- Clearly Marked Amperage: The 80A rating is prominently displayed on the housing for quick circuit identification during system inspections.
Versatile Applications Across Marine, RV, and 4WD Setups
Thanks to its weather-resistant housing and robust internal contacts, the Blue Sea 7142B is a versatile solution for a wide range of 12V, 24V, and up to 48V DC applications. In marine environments, it is ideal for protecting windlasses, bow thrusters, and main house battery feeds. In automotive, 4WD, and caravan installations, it serves as an excellent main breaker for DC-DC chargers, medium-duty inverters, air compressors, and auxiliary battery distribution blocks.
Unlike standard fuses that require replacement spares on hand if an overload occurs, this resettable thermal breaker allows you to safely restore power with a simple flip of the lever once the fault is cleared. Its trip-free design also ensures the breaker cannot be held closed manually while a dangerous fault condition persists, significantly reducing the risk of electrical fires and equipment damage.
