Blue Sea 60A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Integrated Switching and Overcurrent Protection for High-Load DC Systems

The Blue Sea 187-Series 60A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers dependable overcurrent protection and manual circuit switching in a single, streamlined unit. Engineered specifically for demanding marine, RV, caravan, and off-grid electrical installations, this heavy-duty DC breaker eliminates the need to wire separate isolation switches and fuse holders. By consolidating your electrical layout, it reduces connection points, minimises voltage drop, and saves valuable dashboard or control panel space.

Designed to safeguard high-draw 12V, 24V, and 48V DC circuits, the 60A thermal response mechanism provides accurate protection against sustained overloads and short circuits. Whether you are protecting windlasses, bow thrusters, stereo amplifiers, or auxiliary battery distribution panels, the 187-Series offers professional-grade reliability where electrical integrity is critical.

Engineered for Marine Safety and Ignition Protection

When installing electrical components in marine vessels or enclosed battery compartments, safety around flammable gases is paramount. This circuit breaker is fully ignition protected, making it safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats and near vented lead-acid battery banks. Unlike standard automotive breakers that can emit an internal spark when tripping under a heavy load, the sealed construction of the Blue Sea 187-Series prevents external vapour ignition, significantly reducing the risk of fire in bilges and engine bays.

Fail-Safe Trip-Free Design

In high-vibration and high-load environments, clear visual status and fail-safe operation are essential. The breaker features a high-visibility yellow reset lever that clearly indicates whether the circuit is open or closed, and allows for quick manual circuit disconnection during maintenance.

Crucially, the internal mechanism utilises a trip-free design. This means the breaker cannot be manually held in the "ON" position during an active fault current condition. If a short circuit or dangerous overload persists, the internal thermal element will override the lever and trip the circuit regardless of operator interference, protecting your cabling from catastrophic thermal damage and insulation meltdowns.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Dual-Function Operation: Combines heavy-duty 60A circuit protection and manual ON/OFF switching into a single panel-mounted device.
  • Ignition Protected: Safe for installation in the engine compartments of petrol-powered boats and enclosed gas or battery lockers.
  • Trip-Free Mechanism: Cannot be held closed during an active fault condition, preventing manual override of critical safety trips.
  • High-Visibility Status Lever: The contrasting yellow reset lever provides immediate visual confirmation of tripped status and allows easy manual isolation.
  • Vibration-Resistant Mounting: Features recessed top and bottom mounting holes for a secure, stable fitment on marine dashboards, 4WD canopies, and off-grid control panels.
  • Resettable Convenience: Eliminates the need to carry spare high-amp fuses on remote trips; simply clear the fault and reset the lever to restore power.

Application Guidelines and Exclusions

While the Blue Sea 187-Series is built to serve as both a protector and a manual isolator, do not use this breaker as a regular switch where high inrush currents are expected. Repeatedly switching loads with massive startup surges (such as large inverters without pre-charge circuits or heavy inductive motors under load) can cause premature wear to the internal contacts. Instead, utilise the lever for emergency isolation, system maintenance, and infrequent switching of standard DC distribution branches.

Upgrade Your DC Circuit Protection

Protect your vessel, caravan, or off-grid power system with industry-standard marine electrical components. Add the Blue Sea 187-Series 60A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your setup today for safe, consolidated switching and dependable overcurrent protection.
