Blue Sea 50A Medium Duty Push Button Reset-Only Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Reliable Weatherproof and Ignition-Protected 50A Overcurrent Protection

In demanding marine, automotive, and off-grid DC power systems, protecting your electrical cabling and equipment from overcurrent events is essential. The Blue Sea Systems Medium Duty 50A Push Button Circuit Breaker delivers dependable thermal circuit protection specifically engineered for applications where circuit switching is handled elsewhere, or where continuous 24-hour protection is required.

Unlike standard fuses that require replacement parts and tools when an overload occurs, this reset-only circuit breaker allows for rapid power restoration via a prominent manual push button. Its compact footprint enables high-density circuit protection configurations, making it an ideal solution for tight electrical cabinets, marine helm stations, 4WD dual-battery canopies, and caravan power distribution boards.

Engineered for Harsh Environments and Safety Compliance

Standard automotive circuit breakers often suffer from moisture ingress, terminal loosening under vibration, and corrosion when exposed to coastal or off-road conditions. The Blue Sea BS-2142B addresses these vulnerabilities with a fully weatherproof housing that shields internal components from water spray, dust, and salt mist.

Furthermore, this unit is ignition protected, meaning it is engineered to prevent internal sparks from igniting surrounding flammable gases. This makes it safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats, within vehicle engine bays, or near vented battery compartments. For added safety, the internal trip-free mechanism ensures the breaker cannot be manually held in the closed (ON) position during an active fault-current condition, preventing severe wire overheating and equipment damage while you troubleshoot the underlying issue.

Key Features and Technical Advantages

  • Reset-Only Operation: Prevents accidental manual switching off of critical 24-hour circuits such as bilge pumps, security systems, or battery chargers.
  • Trip-Free Safety Mechanism: Automatically trips and remains open during an ongoing fault, even if the reset button is held down.
  • Weatherproof Construction: Built to withstand exposure to moisture, spray, and harsh marine or off-road environments.
  • Ignition Protected: Safe for installation in compartments housing petrol engines or flammable vapour sources.
  • Captive Star Lock Washers: Integrated into the terminal studs to meet anti-rotation requirements, resist high-vibration loosening, and prevent dropped hardware during installation in tight spaces.
  • Compact, High-Density Format: Reinforced mounting holes and a streamlined body allow multiple breakers to be mounted neatly in confined distribution panels.

Ideal Applications for 50A Reset-Only Protection

The 50A rating sits in a highly versatile middle ground for DC power systems. It is frequently utilised for main, branch, or dedicated circuit protection where separate switches or relays control the load. Common applications include:

  • Marine Electrical Systems: Protecting heavy-duty bilge pumps, windlass control circuits, audio amplifiers, and sub-panel feed lines on boats and yachts.
  • 4WD and Caravan Setups: Safeguarding DC-DC battery chargers, air compressors, hydraulic pumps, and auxiliary fuse block main feeds.
  • Commercial and Industrial Vehicles: Providing vibration-resistant overcurrent protection for warning lights, communication gear, and auxiliary work equipment.

Upgrade Your DC Circuit Protection

Ensure your critical marine, RV, or automotive electrical circuits are safeguarded against overloads and short circuits. Add the Blue Sea Medium Duty 50A Push Button Circuit Breaker to your system today for durable, compliant, and easily resettable power protection.
