Blue Sea 40A 285-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 40A 285-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
IP67 Waterproof & SAE J1171 Ignition Protected with Manual Trip

DESCRIPTION
Heavy-Duty 40A Thermal Circuit Protection and Manual Switching
The Blue Sea 285-Series 40A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers dual-function electrical management for demanding marine, RV, and off-grid power systems. Engineered as a direct drop-in replacement for older 185-Series circuit breakers, this unit combines reliable overcurrent protection with manual switching capabilities in a single, compact device. By integrating both functions, it eliminates the need for separate inline fuse holders and isolation switches, streamlining your electrical panel layout while reducing potential failure points in high-vibration environments.
Engineered for Harsh Marine and Automotive Environments
Electrical components in boats, 4WDs, and caravans are frequently exposed to moisture, salt spray, and volatile fumes. Standard consumer-grade breakers can corrode or pose safety hazards when installed near battery banks or fuel tanks. The 285-Series addresses these risks with a robust, IP67 waterproof sealed housing that resists water ingress during temporary immersion and withstands harsh coastal conditions.
Furthermore, this 40A breaker is fully compliant with SAE J1171 external ignition protection requirements. This certification ensures the internal mechanism will not ignite surrounding flammable gases if a spark occurs during tripping or manual switching, making it safe for installation in petrol-powered marine engine compartments and enclosed battery boxes.
Intuitive Operation and Fault Diagnostics
Managing high-current circuits requires clear visual feedback and straightforward operation. The Blue Sea BS-7082B features a high-visibility yellow reset lever that drops down when an overcurrent event trips the thermal mechanism, allowing you to identify faults at a glance. When performing maintenance or isolating auxiliary equipment, the integrated red manual trip button lets you disconnect the circuit safely without waiting for a thermal trip.
- Dual-Function Design: Combines 40A thermal overcurrent protection and manual circuit switching into one compact unit.
- SAE J1171 Ignition Protected: Safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats and near ventilated battery enclosures.
- IP67 Sealed Housing: Weatherproof construction protects internal contacts against dust, moisture, and marine salt spray.
- Clear Status Indication: Visible yellow reset lever clearly shows tripped status and allows for rapid circuit restoration.
- Manual Disconnect Button: Red push-to-trip button enables immediate manual circuit isolation during system servicing.
- Drop-In Compatibility: Shares the same mounting footprint as 185-Series breakers for straightforward panel upgrades.
Reliable Protection for Auxiliary Circuits
unlike single-use fuses that require spare parts and tools to replace in the dark, a thermal circuit breaker allows you to restore power immediately once the underlying fault is resolved. The integrated mounting holes ensure a secure panel installation, keeping the switching controls accessible while protecting the rear wiring connections inside the console or enclosure. It is an ideal solution for protecting windlasses, stereo amplifiers, DC distribution panels, and auxiliary battery charging lines.
Upgrade Your Electrical Safety
Equip your vessel, 4WD, or off-grid power setup with dependable, marine-grade overcurrent protection. Add the Blue Sea 285-Series 40A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your system for safe, resettable circuit management.
