Blue Sea 30A 285-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 30A 285-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Manual Trip Button, Resettable Yellow Lever & Insulating Terminal Caps

DESCRIPTION
Reliable Overcurrent Protection and Manual Switching for DC Electrical Systems
The Blue Sea 285-Series 30A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers dependable overcurrent protection and convenient manual circuit disconnection in a single, compact unit. Engineered specifically for demanding marine, RV, caravan, and off-grid 12V and 24V DC electrical systems, this breaker acts as both a safeguard against electrical faults and a serviceable master switch for your auxiliary loads.
Unlike standard inline fuses that require spare parts and tools to replace after a fault, a resettable thermal circuit breaker allows you to quickly restore power once the underlying issue is resolved. This reduces downtime and eliminates the risk of being caught without a replacement fuse in remote off-grid or marine environments.
Dual-Function Design: Switching and Protection
Designed for ease of use and clear visual status indication, the 285-Series features an ergonomic, surface-mount housing that installs directly onto flat panels, bulkheads, or battery box walls. It incorporates two distinct control mechanisms to give you complete command over your circuit:
- Manual Trip Button: A prominent red push-button allows you to manually disconnect the circuit at any time, functioning as a convenient battery isolator or maintenance switch when servicing downstream equipment.
- High-Visibility Reset Lever: When an overcurrent event or manual trip occurs, the bright yellow lever drops down to clearly indicate an open circuit. Simply swing the lever back into the housing to reset the breaker and restore power.
- Stainless Steel Terminal Studs: Heavy-duty terminal studs ensure secure, corrosion-resistant, high-current electrical connections that hold tight against vehicle and vessel vibration.
- Integrated Protective Rubber Caps: Attached insulating terminal covers fit directly over the connection studs to prevent accidental short circuits and protect against conductive debris.
- Simple Surface Mounting: Integrated mounting holes allow for straightforward installation onto flat surfaces without requiring complex panel cutouts.
Built for Harsh Marine and Mobile Environments
Electrical components in boats, 4WDs, and camper trailers are frequently exposed to moisture, salt spray, and continuous vibration. Inferior circuit protection can suffer from voltage drop, nuisance tripping, or terminal corrosion, leading to system failures when you need power most. The Blue Sea Systems 285-Series is constructed with marine-grade materials to resist corrosion and maintain consistent electrical conductivity over its service life.
The integrated rubber terminal boots are a critical safety feature in tight battery compartments, shielding live positive terminals from accidental contact with tools or loose wiring. Whether you are protecting a DC-DC charger, a distribution fuse block, solar charge controllers, or heavy-duty accessories, this 30A thermal breaker provides a clean, professional installation.
Ideal Applications
- Main circuit protection for 12V and 24V auxiliary battery systems in 4WDs and caravans
- Marine electrical panels, bilge circuits, and electronics distribution branches
- Protecting solar regulator outputs and DC-DC battery charger inputs
- Replacing standard inline midi fuse holders where manual isolation is preferred
