Blue Sea 30A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Integrated Marine and Off-Grid Circuit Protection and Switching

The Blue Sea Systems 187-Series 30A Thermal Circuit Breaker is engineered to deliver high-reliability overcurrent protection and manual switching within a single, compact device. Designed specifically for panel mounting in demanding marine, caravan, and off-grid 12V, 24V, and up to 48V DC electrical systems, this unit simplifies wiring topologies by eliminating the need for a separate battery switch and fuse holder. Its robust, weatherproof housing is built to withstand harsh environments where moisture, salt spray, and vibration frequently compromise lower-grade electrical components.

Engineered for Safety in Hazardous Environments

When installing high-current electrical distribution systems in enclosed spaces or marine vessels, safety is paramount. This breaker features an ignition-protected construction, meaning it will not ignite surrounding flammable gases should an internal spark occur during switching or tripping. This makes it entirely suitable for installation aboard petrol-powered boats, within vehicle engine bays, and inside enclosed battery compartments.

Furthermore, the unit incorporates a trip-free internal mechanism. In the event of a severe overcurrent or short-circuit fault, the breaker will disconnect the circuit even if the manual reset lever is physically held in the ON position. This critical safety feature reduces the risk of wire insulation melting, equipment damage, and electrical fires caused by forced connections during active faults.

Heavy-Duty Construction and Installation Flexibility

Unlike standard automotive breakers with undersized posts that struggle to accommodate heavy cabling, the 187-Series is equipped with substantial 5/16" (Approx. M8) stud terminals. These terminals are engineered to accept high-torque connections and provide generous clearance around the housing to easily fit heavy-gauge wire lugs. This ensures low-resistance connections that minimise voltage drop and heat build-up across your auxiliary circuits.

  • Dual-Function Design: Combines reliable thermal overcurrent protection with convenient manual ON/OFF circuit switching.
  • Trip-Free Operation: Internal mechanism trips during fault-current conditions regardless of whether the lever is held open, protecting downstream wiring.
  • Ignition Protected: Safe for installation in engine compartments and aboard petrol-powered marine vessels.
  • Robust Terminal Hardware: 5/16" (Approx. M8) studs support high-torque terminations and offer ample clearance for heavy-duty cable lugs.
  • Weatherproof Housing: Sealed case construction resists water and dust ingress, featuring recessed mounting holes for a clean, flush panel finish.
  • Clear Visual Indication: Large, high-visibility yellow reset lever provides positive trip status identification and can be mounted vertically or horizontally.

Application Considerations and System Integration

This 30A panel mount breaker is well suited for protecting auxiliary distribution panels, windlass systems, dual-battery setups, and high-draw DC appliances in 4WD canopies, RVs, and commercial vehicles. The self-trimming case and recessed mounting apertures allow for a clean, professional installation onto custom dash panels or marine switchboards.

Important Application Note: Do not use this thermal circuit breaker as a frequent manual switch where high inrush currents are expected, as repeated switching under heavy inductive or capacitive startup loads can prematurely wear the internal contacts. Select the Blue Sea 187-Series when your installation requires dependable, ignition-protected thermal circuit protection with integrated isolation capability.

Upgrade Your DC Electrical Protection

Secure your marine, RV, or off-grid power system against overcurrent faults with professional-grade hardware. Add the Blue Sea 187-Series 30A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your setup today for dependable, long-term circuit protection and effortless isolation.
