Blue Sea 25A thermal circuit breaker with yellow reset lever and red trip button for panel mounting

Blue Sea 25A 285-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Integrated Thermal Overcurrent Protection and Switching for Demanding DC Systems

The Blue Sea 285-Series 25A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers dual-function utility by combining reliable overcurrent protection and manual circuit switching into a single, compact device. Engineered for harsh marine, automotive, and off-grid electrical environments, this unit eliminates the need to wire a separate fuse holder and isolation switch. By consolidating components, it reduces wiring complexity, minimises potential failure points, and saves valuable space behind your dash or control panel.

Engineered for Safety and Intuitive Operation

When managing critical DC electrical systems in boats, 4WDs, or caravans, immediate visual diagnostics and fail-safe operation are essential. The 285-Series features a high-visibility yellow reset lever that automatically deploys when an overcurrent event occurs, clearly indicating an open circuit at a glance. For scheduled maintenance or emergency isolation, a recessed red push-button allows for instant manual circuit interruption.

Crucially, this thermal breaker incorporates a "Trip-Free" mechanical design. Unlike standard switches or lower-tier alternatives, a trip-free mechanism cannot be manually held in the closed position while a fault condition persists. This prevents operators from accidentally overriding the safety mechanism, protecting wiring harnesses from thermal damage and significantly reducing the risk of electrical fires.

Built for Harsh Marine and Off-Road Environments

Standard automotive circuit protection often fails prematurely when exposed to moisture, salt spray, or engine bay heat. The Blue Sea 285-Series is housed in a rugged, weather-resistant enclosure designed to withstand damp and corrosive conditions. Furthermore, it meets stringent SAE J1171 external ignition protection requirements. This certification ensures the internal switching mechanism will not ignite surrounding flammable vapours, making it safe for installation in the engine rooms or bilge areas of petrol-powered vessels, as well as near propane storage in RVs and camper trailers.

Key Features & Technical Benefits

  • Dual-Function Design: Combines 25A thermal circuit protection with manual on/off switching, simplifying your wiring architecture.
  • Trip-Free Mechanism: Internal contacts cannot be forced closed during an active overcurrent fault, ensuring uncompromising circuit safety.
  • SAE J1171 Ignition Protected: Safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats and in enclosed compartments with potential vapour buildup.
  • Weather-Resistant Housing: Sealed construction resists moisture, dust, and salt ingress in exposed marine or off-road mounting locations.
  • Clear Status Indication: High-contrast yellow reset lever provides immediate visual confirmation of a tripped circuit, paired with a manual red trip button.
  • Secure Panel Mounting: Dual mounting holes allow for stable, vibration-resistant installation into custom switch panels or dashboards.

Application Guidelines and Exclusions

This 25A panel-mount breaker is well-suited for protecting main branch circuits, dual battery accessories, lighting arrays, and medium-draw pumps in 12V and 24V DC systems. Important Use Note: While this unit functions as a manual disconnect switch, it is not designed to be used as a frequent switching device for loads where high inrush currents are expected, as repeated surges can fatigue the thermal element over time.

Upgrade Your Circuit Protection

Equip your vessel, 4WD, or off-grid power system with professional-grade electrical protection. Add the Blue Sea 285-Series 25A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your setup today for dependable, consolidated circuit management.
