Blue Sea 25A surface mount thermal circuit breaker with yellow reset lever and threaded terminals

Blue Sea 25A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Dual-Function Circuit Protection and Switching for Demanding DC Systems

Managing space and wiring complexity in marine, caravan, and off-grid electrical panels is a common challenge. The Blue Sea 187-Series 25A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker addresses this by combining dependable overcurrent circuit protection and manual on-off switching into a single, rugged unit. By eliminating the need for a separate inline fuse holder and isolation switch, this component streamlines your electrical layout, reduces potential points of failure, and simplifies installation on flat panels or bulkheads.

Engineered specifically for harsh environments, this 25A thermal circuit breaker is built to protect auxiliary circuits, solar controllers, and main distribution feeds in 12V, 24V, and up to 48V DC electrical systems. Unlike standard automotive-grade alternatives that can corrode or fail prematurely in damp conditions, the 187-Series features a weatherproof housing that shields internal components from moisture, salt spray, and dust.

Advanced Safety: Trip-Free and Ignition Protected

When working with high-energy battery banks or volatile environments, safety cannot be compromised. This unit incorporates a trip-free mechanism, ensuring that the internal circuit will trip open during a fault-current event even if the external lever is manually held or obstructed in the ON position. This critical safety feature mitigates the risk of cable overheating and electrical fires caused by sustained short circuits.

Additionally, the housing is fully ignition protected, meaning it will not ignite surrounding flammable gases if a spark occurs internally during switching or tripping. This makes it compliant and safe for installation aboard petrol-powered marine vessels, as well as in vented battery compartments or near LPG storage in caravans and motorhomes.

  • Combined Switching and Protection: Integrates a 25A thermal circuit breaker and manual on-off switch to save space and reduce wiring connections.
  • Trip-Free Operation: Internal contacts disconnect during an overcurrent fault regardless of whether the lever is held in the ON position.
  • Ignition Protected Housing: Safe for installation in compartments aboard petrol-powered boats and enclosed recreational vehicle utility bays.
  • High-Visibility Status Lever: The bright yellow reset lever provides an immediate visual confirmation of whether the circuit is active, manually switched off, or tripped.
  • Heavy-Duty Threaded Terminals: Robust stud terminals ensure high-torque, low-resistance connections for heavy-gauge lugs, preventing voltage drop and heat build-up.
  • Surface Mount Configuration: Pre-drilled mounting holes allow straightforward attachment directly onto electrical panels, bulkheads, or battery boxes.

Important Operational Considerations

While the single-lever operation makes it effortless to isolate equipment for maintenance or storage, it is important to match the component to the correct load profile. The manufacturer advises against using this thermal circuit breaker as a frequent manual switch on circuits where high inrush currents are expected, as repeated high-surge switching can accelerate contact wear. Observe this operational limitation when designing your DC distribution system to ensure long-term reliability.

Upgrade Your Electrical Protection

Equip your marine vessel, 4WD canopy, or off-grid power system with industry-standard circuit protection. Select the Blue Sea 187-Series 25A circuit breaker for a cleaner, safer, and more serviceable electrical installation.
