Blue Sea 24V 500A ML Series Solenoid Battery Isolator
Blue Sea 24V 500A ML Series Solenoid Battery Isolator
Zero Standby Draw Magnetic Latching - Silver Alloy Contacts

DESCRIPTION
High-Amperage Magnetic Latching Switching for 24V DC Systems
Managing high-current 24V battery banks requires switching components that can handle substantial electrical loads without introducing parasitic drain or excessive voltage drop. The Blue Sea 24V 500A ML Series Solenoid Battery Isolator is engineered for demanding marine, commercial vehicle, and off-grid power architectures. Rated for a continuous 500A current, this heavy-duty solenoid provides dependable remote switching for main engine starting circuits, large inverters, high-draw house loads, and emergency battery bank combining.
Zero Standby Draw with Magnetic Latching Technology
Conventional solenoids require a continuous holding current to keep contacts closed, which gradually depletes battery reserves and generates excess heat during extended operation. The ML Series resolves this issue through advanced magnetic latching (bi-stable) technology. The unit draws zero current in either the ON or OFF state, only consuming a brief pulse of power when actively changing switch positions. This preserves critical battery capacity during long-term storage or extended off-grid deployments and eliminates coil burnout risks associated with continuous duty cycles.
Engineered for Harsh Environments and Live Load Switching
Switching high-amperage live loads can rapidly degrade standard copper contacts due to electrical arcing. To mitigate this risk, the Blue Sea ML Series incorporates silver alloy contacts, offering superior resistance to welding and contact pitting under load. This ensures consistent, reliable circuit isolation when you need it most.
Designed to withstand corrosive marine and mobile environments, the exterior connections feature 3/8"-16 (Approx. M10) tin-plated copper studs. Tin plating prevents oxidation while maintaining high electrical conductivity. With a 7/8" (22mm) stud length, the terminals easily accommodate multiple heavy-duty cable lugs, allowing for clean distribution without requiring additional busbars. Furthermore, the housing is ignition protected, making it safe for installation aboard petrol-powered vessels and in vented battery compartments.
Key Features and Benefits
- Bi-Stable Magnetic Latching: Consumes no power while maintaining an open or closed state, protecting 24V battery banks from parasitic drain.
- 500A Continuous Rating: Handles substantial DC loads, making it suitable for large inverter banks, bow thrusters, winches, and commercial engine circuits.
- Silver Alloy Contacts: Delivers high reliability and longevity when switching live loads, reducing the risk of contact failure.
- Heavy-Duty Terminal Studs: 3/8"-16 (Approx. M10) tin-plated copper studs with a 7/8" (22mm) length accept multiple heavy-gauge ring terminals for versatile wiring configurations.
- Ignition Protected Construction: Safe for installation in marine engine rooms and spaces containing potentially flammable vapours.
- Integrated Circuit Identification: Built-in recessed areas allow for clean, durable labelling of connected circuits for straightforward system maintenance.
System Integration and Important Exclusions
This solenoid allows you to mount the heavy battery switch close to the battery bank to minimise heavy-gauge cable runs, while controlling the circuit remotely from a helm, dashboard, or main control panel. Please note: This specific model (BS-7703B) is supplied as the solenoid unit only. The compatible ML-Series Remote Control Contura Switch (Part Number 2145) is not included and must be purchased separately if required for your installation.
