Blue Sea 230VAC 16A Main Double Pole Circuit Breaker Panel
Blue Sea 230VAC 16A Main Double Pole Circuit Breaker Panel
Integrated AC Switching, Reverse Polarity LED & Trip-Free Protection

DESCRIPTION
Integrated 230VAC Main Switching and Overcurrent Protection
Dependable AC Main Control for Marine, Caravan, and Off-Grid Electrical Systems
Managing alternating current in mobile and marine environments requires strict adherence to safety protocols. The Blue Sea Systems 8177B provides a consolidated solution by combining main circuit switching and overcurrent protection into a single, streamlined unit. Engineered specifically for 230VAC electrical systems with a 16A rating, this double-pole circuit breaker panel acts as the primary isolation and safety point for shore power inlets, onboard inverters, or generator feeds.
In high-vibration environments like boats, RVs, and off-grid cabins, inferior switching hardware can lead to premature trips or dangerous electrical faults. By integrating switching and protection, this panel eliminates the need for separate rotary switches and fuse blocks, simplifying your enclosure layout and reducing the number of potential failure points in your high-voltage wiring.
Why Double-Pole Switching Matters in 230VAC Systems
Unlike standard household circuits where single-pole breakers only interrupt the active conductor, mobile and marine 230VAC architectures require complete isolation of both the active (live) and neutral lines. If a shore power pedestal or external generator is wired incorrectly, the neutral conductor can inadvertently carry lethal voltage. The ganged double-pole design of this Blue Sea panel ensures that both conductors are disconnected simultaneously when switched off or tripped, protecting both sensitive appliances and personnel during maintenance.
Proactive Safety and Visual Diagnostics
Electrical faults in AC distribution systems are not always immediately obvious. To mitigate the risk of equipment damage and electrocution, this panel features built-in diagnostic indicators and fail-safe mechanical engineering:
- Dual LED Status Indicators: A green LED provides immediate visual confirmation that AC power is active, while a dedicated red LED illuminates to warn of unsafe reverse polarity conditions before you engage sensitive downstream loads.
- Trip-Free Mechanism: The internal breaker mechanism is engineered to be trip-free, meaning the toggle cannot be manually held in the ON position while a fault current condition persists, preventing thermal runaway and wiring damage.
- Simultaneous Line Isolation: The ganged double-pole toggle switches both active and neutral lines together for total circuit disconnection.
- Integrated Grounding Point: Features a dedicated safety-ground screw on the rear of the panel to simplify chassis and enclosure earthing.
- Low-Light Readability: Equipped with a backlit circuit identification label and countersunk mounting holes for a clean, professional installation in dark helm stations or utility lockers.
Applications and System Integration
Designed to meet the rigorous demands of marine and recreational vehicle standards, this 16A main breaker panel is ideal for a wide range of 230VAC applications:
- Marine Shore Power: Acts as the primary AC main disconnect on yachts, cruisers, and workboats connecting to marina pedestals.
- Caravans and Motorhomes: Protects internal 230VAC ring mains fed by campsite hookups or high-output off-grid inverters.
- Specialist Service Vehicles: Secures onboard generator outputs in mobile workshops, catering vans, and emergency response vehicles.
Upgrade Your AC Distribution Safety
Ensure your high-voltage distribution system is protected against overloads and wiring faults. Incorporate the Blue Sea 230VAC 16A Main Double Pole Circuit Breaker Panel into your next marine or off-grid electrical build for reliable, compliant AC main control.
