Blue Sea 230VAC 16A 30mA Trip 2 Pole Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI), Front Panel Mount, FR
Short Circuit & Overload Protection with Fault LEDs & Test Button

DESCRIPTION
Comprehensive AC Circuit and Ground Fault Protection for Distribution Panels
Engineered for high-reliability AC power distribution systems, this Blue Sea Systems Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI) provides critical whole-system protection for marine, RV, and off-grid electrical installations. Operating at 230VAC and 16A, this front-panel mount unit combines overcurrent protection and ground fault detection into a single, streamlined module. By constantly monitoring the current balance between the active and neutral conductors, the interrupter rapidly disconnects power if it detects a 30mA leakage to ground, alongside standard short circuit and overload responses.
Why Choose a Dedicated 2-Pole ELCI?
In mobile and marine environments, AC electrical systems face constant vibration, moisture ingress, and potential insulation breakdown. Standard single-pole breakers only interrupt the active conductor, leaving the system vulnerable if shore power or generator polarity is reversed. A 2-pole configuration simultaneously isolates both the active and neutral conductors when a fault occurs. This dual-line interruption significantly reduces the risk of electrical shock, equipment damage, and stray current corrosion in damp or conductive environments.
Unlike standard domestic circuit breakers that are not built for mobile shock and vibration, Blue Sea Systems components are purpose-built for demanding power distribution panels. This unit consolidates the roles of a main circuit breaker and a Residual Current Device (RCD) or RCBO, saving valuable panel space while simplifying wiring complexity behind the dash or switchboard.
Key Features and Diagnostic Capabilities
- Triple-Fault Interruption: Reliably trips in direct response to short circuits, current overloads, and 30mA ground fault current leakage.
- Simultaneous 2-Pole Isolation: Disconnects both active and neutral lines at once to ensure complete circuit isolation during fault conditions or manual switching.
- Integrated Visual Diagnostics: Features a green LED indicator to confirm active power status and a dedicated red warning LED to immediately identify equipment leakage faults.
- Manual Test Functionality: Equipped with an accessible front-mounted test button, allowing operators to perform periodic functional verification of the leakage trip mechanism.
- Robust Front-Panel Mounting: Incorporates brass threaded inserts to ensure secure, vibration-resistant installation into custom or pre-fabricated AC distribution panels.
Engineered for Demanding Applications
Troubleshooting electrical faults at sea or in remote off-grid locations can be challenging without clear diagnostic feedback. The inclusion of status LEDs on the front bezel eliminates guesswork; if the breaker trips, the red leakage fault LED clarifies whether the interruption was caused by dangerous ground leakage rather than a simple appliance overload. This immediate distinction helps technicians and system owners isolate faulty appliances or compromised wiring safely and efficiently.
This 230VAC 16A ELCI is ideally suited for:
- Marine AC shore power inlets and main switchboards
- Onboard marine generator output protection
- Caravan, motorhome, and specialized commercial vehicle 230VAC hookups
- Off-grid inverter output distribution panels
