Blue Sea 200A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Heavy-Duty 200A Overcurrent Protection and Manual Battery Isolation

The Blue Sea 187-Series 200A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers reliable overcurrent protection and convenient manual switching in a single, compact unit. Engineered specifically for demanding marine, RV, caravan, and off-grid power systems, this heavy-duty DC circuit breaker simplifies wiring topologies by eliminating the need for a separate fuse holder and isolation switch. Featuring a single high-visibility yellow control lever, operators can easily disconnect high-ampacity circuits for routine maintenance or emergency shutdowns.

Built to perform where inferior alternatives often fail due to thermal fatigue, voltage drop, or moisture ingress, the 187-Series utilizes a specialized trip-free internal mechanism. This critical safety feature ensures the circuit breaker cannot be manually held in the closed (ON) position during an active fault condition, protecting expensive cabling, battery banks, and downstream appliances from catastrophic thermal events.

Engineered for Harsh Marine and Automotive Environments

Whether installed in the engine bay of a 4WD, the battery locker of a caravan, or the bilge of a commercial vessel, electrical protection components must withstand environmental extremes. The Blue Sea 187-Series features a waterproof housing and certified ignition-protected construction. This makes it completely safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats and inside enclosed battery compartments where explosive gases may accumulate.

  • Dual-Function Design: Combines 200A thermal circuit protection with manual on-off switching in one durable housing.
  • Trip-Free Safety Mechanism: Internal mechanical design prevents the lever from being held on during an active overcurrent fault.
  • Ignition Protected: Safe for installation aboard petrol-powered vessels and in enclosed battery or engine compartments.
  • Heavy-Duty Terminations: 5/16" (Approx. M8) stainless steel terminal studs provide high-torque connections and corrosion resistance.
  • Large Wire Clearance: Generous spacing around the terminal studs easily accommodates heavy-gauge battery cable lugs.
  • Clear Visual Status: The high-visibility lever rests vertically or horizontally to provide immediate visual confirmation of tripped or operational status.
  • Waterproof Construction: Sealed housing with recessed mounting holes offers a clean, weather-resistant installation.

Robust Connections for High-Current DC Systems

High-amperage 12V, 24V, and 48V DC electrical systems require robust terminations to prevent high-resistance hot spots. This 200A thermal breaker is equipped with heavy-duty 5/16" (Approx. M8) stainless steel studs designed to support high-torque connections without stripping. The housing is deliberately contoured to provide ample clearance around the studs, accommodating heavy-gauge battery lugs and protective insulator boots without interference. Recessed mounting holes further ensure a secure, vibration-resistant surface mount installation on bulkheads, distribution panels, or battery boxes.

Ideal Applications and Operational Considerations

The Blue Sea 187-Series 200A circuit breaker is ideally suited for main DC feed protection, windlasses, bow thrusters, high-output alternators, and large DC-to-DC battery chargers. Please note: While this unit excels as a manual disconnect and thermal protector, it is not intended to be used for frequent switching under load where high inrush currents are expected (such as switching large inverters without pre-charge circuits).
