Blue Sea 200A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Heavy-Duty 200A DC Circuit Protection and Manual Switching

The Blue Sea 187-Series 200A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers dual-purpose functionality by combining high-amperage overcurrent protection with manual switching in a single, compact unit. Engineered specifically for demanding marine, RV, caravan, and off-grid electrical systems, this breaker simplifies your switchboard layout by eliminating the need for separate master switches and inline fuses on primary DC circuits.

Designed to meet stringent safety standards, its SAE J1171 ignition-protected construction ensures safe installation aboard petrol-powered vessels and within enclosed battery or engine compartments. Whether you are protecting heavy-duty windlasses, high-output alternators, inverters, or main battery busbars, this 187-Series breaker provides reliable thermal response against dangerous electrical overloads and short circuits.

Engineered for Safety and High-Current Reliability

Unlike standard unbranded breakers that can suffer from voltage drop, nuisance tripping, or thermal failure under sustained loads, the Blue Sea 187-Series is built for long-term durability in harsh Australian conditions. It features a mechanical trip-free design, meaning the internal contacts cannot be manually held in the closed (ON) position while a fault current is present. This critical safety mechanism reduces the risk of wire insulation melting or electrical fires during an unresolved short circuit.

The high-visibility yellow manual reset lever provides immediate visual confirmation of your circuit status, with clearly marked ON, OFF/TRIP, and RESET positions. For flexibility across custom dashboards and power distribution panels, the lever can be oriented for either vertical or horizontal operation.

  • Dual Functionality: Combines reliable 200A thermal overcurrent protection and manual ON/OFF circuit isolation in one device.
  • SAE J1171 Ignition Protected: Safe for installation in petrol engine compartments and marine bilge areas without risking vapour ignition.
  • Trip-Free Safety Mechanism: Prevents the actuator from being forced or held ON during an active electrical fault.
  • Heavy-Gauge Cable Support: Equipped with robust 5/16" (Approx. M8) terminal studs and generous housing clearance to accommodate heavy-duty cable lugs and high-torque connections.
  • Clean Panel Integration: Recessed mounting holes allow for a neat, flush finish on custom marine dashboards, 4WD canopies, and caravan electrical panels.
  • Weatherproof Construction: Sealed against moisture and salt spray ingress to ensure dependable operation in coastal and off-road environments.

Application Guidelines and Installation

This panel-mount circuit breaker is ideal for primary DC power distribution, battery bank isolation, and high-draw auxiliary equipment. The robust 5/16" (Approx. M8) studs ensure low-resistance connections when paired with appropriately sized heavy-gauge battery cables.

Important Application Note: Do not use this thermal circuit breaker as a frequent manual switch where high inrush currents are expected, as repeated switching under heavy surge loads can degrade the internal contact surfaces over time.

Upgrade Your Primary Circuit Protection

Secure your marine vessel, caravan, or off-grid power system with industry-standard circuit protection. Add the Blue Sea 187-Series 200A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your build today for safe, compliant, and streamlined DC power management.
