Blue Sea 175A C-Series Double-Pole Toggle Circuit Breaker

DESCRIPTION

Heavy-Duty Switching and Overcurrent Protection for High-Amperage Systems

Managing high-current electrical loads in marine, caravan, and off-grid power architectures requires robust circuit protection that does not compromise under pressure. The Blue Sea C-Series 175A Double-Pole Toggle Circuit Breaker (BS-7268B) combines heavy-duty switching and precision overcurrent protection into a single, reliable device. Designed for demanding environments, this breaker protects expensive cabling and critical appliances from destructive short circuits and sustained overloads.

Unlike standard thermal breakers that can suffer from nuisance tripping or high voltage drop, the Blue Sea Systems C-Series utilises hydraulic-magnetic technology. This ensures the trip curve remains stable regardless of ambient temperature fluctuations, making it exceptionally well-suited for enclosed engine bays, battery compartments, and sun-exposed electrical cabinets across Australia.

Engineered for Simultaneous Dual-Line Isolation

The double-pole configuration features mechanically linked white toggle handles. When a fault occurs on either line, or when the breaker is manually switched off, both poles disconnect simultaneously. This makes it an ideal main disconnect or branch circuit breaker for systems where isolating both positive and negative DC lines—or multiple AC lines—is required for safety and compliance.

Additionally, the internal mechanism is "trip-free," meaning the circuit breaker cannot be manually held in the closed position while a fault current is present. This critical safety feature reduces the risk of electrical fires and equipment damage during troubleshooting.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Linked Double-Pole Operation: White linked toggle handles ensure simultaneous disconnection of both poles during manual switching or an overcurrent fault.
  • Combines Switching and Protection: Eliminates the need for a separate isolation switch and fuse holder, simplifying wiring layouts and saving valuable panel space.
  • Heavy-Duty Rear Terminals: Large rear-mounted terminal studs with supplied hardware accommodate heavy-gauge battery and inverter cables for low-resistance connections.
  • Durable Panel Mounting: Integrated threaded brass mounting inserts allow for secure, vibration-resistant front-panel installation in mobile and marine applications.
  • Clear Visual Identification: Features a high-visibility 175A rating on the front toggle and a comprehensive side-mounted technical data label for straightforward system inspection.
  • Trip-Free Design: Internal contacts will trip open during an overcurrent event even if the toggle actuator is physically held in the ON position.

Solving Common High-Current Wiring Challenges

In high-amperage 12V, 24V, and 48V DC systems, poor connections at the fuse block often lead to heat build-up, melted plastics, and system failure. By utilising robust rear-mounted stud terminals and precision-machined brass mounting inserts, the BS-7268B ensures optimal clamping force for large cable lugs. This minimises contact resistance and thermal stress during continuous high-load operations, such as running large inverters, bow thrusters, winches, or high-output charging systems.

Ideal Applications

  • Main battery bank isolation and protection in marine vessels and yachts
  • Overcurrent protection for high-wattage inverters and inverter/chargers in caravans, RVs, and motorhomes
  • Simultaneous positive and negative line disconnection in isolated ground DC systems
  • Heavy-duty off-grid solar and industrial power distribution panels
