Blue Sea 15A Stainless Steel Backlit OFF-(ON) Push Button Switch

DESCRIPTION

Reliable Momentary Control for Marine and Automotive Dashboards

Upgrading your vessel or custom vehicle dashboard requires components that combine visual clarity with exceptional durability. The Blue Sea 15A Stainless Steel Backlit OFF-(ON) Push Button Switch is engineered to provide precise, momentary electrical control in demanding environments. Unlike standard plastic switches that can degrade, crack, or fade under harsh UV exposure and salt spray, this marine-grade stainless steel switch delivers long-term mechanical reliability and a clean, modern aesthetic for any helm or control panel.

Dual-Colour LED Backlighting for Instant Status Recognition

Operating a boat at night or managing a complex 12V control panel in low-light conditions requires immediate visual feedback. This push button switch incorporates dual-colour LED illumination to eliminate guesswork. The backlit icon glows blue when the circuit is in the OFF state, making the switch easy to locate in the dark. When pressed into the momentary (ON) position, the illumination transitions to red, providing an unmistakable visual confirmation that the circuit is active. This intuitive colour-coding reduces operator error and enhances safety during night navigation or off-grid operations.

Understanding the OFF-(ON) Momentary Action

In electrical terminology, parentheses around a switch state indicate a momentary action. An OFF-(ON) switch remains open (OFF) in its resting state and only completes the circuit (ON) while actively pressed and held by the operator. Once released, an internal spring mechanism immediately returns the actuator to the OFF position. This specific configuration is essential for applications requiring temporary activation, preventing accidental continuous operation that could drain batteries or burn out motors. Common applications include:

  • Manual bilge pump overrides to clear residual water
  • Marine horns and audible warning signals
  • Windlass and anchor control relays
  • Engine starter circuits and glow plug pre-heaters
  • Momentary deck or utility lighting checks

Customisable Identification and Streamlined Installation

To ensure your dashboard remains organised and intuitive, the switch is supplied with five commonly used ICON labels: Accessory, Lights, Anchor Light, Running Light, and Bilge Pump. If your installation requires specialised circuit identification, an optional 50 ICON label kit is sold separately by Blue Sea Systems to cover virtually any marine or recreational vehicle application.

Designed for straightforward integration into custom panels, the unit features a robust threaded housing with a hex nut for secure through-panel mounting. It also includes a pre-terminated, insulated wire lead harness, reducing installation time and ensuring dependable electrical connections that resist vibration loosening.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Marine-Grade Stainless Steel Bezel: Offers superior resistance to corrosion, moisture, and physical wear compared to standard plastic rockers.
  • High 15A Current Rating: Capable of handling substantial electrical loads directly, often removing the need for external relays in standard accessory circuits.
  • Dual-State Illumination: Blue LED backlighting when OFF for easy night-time location, switching to red when ON for clear active status indication.
  • Pre-Wired Harness Included: Supplied with insulated wire leads for rapid, secure termination behind the dash.
  • Versatile Circuit Labelling: Includes five essential marine and RV icon labels right out of the box, with expansion kits available separately.
