Blue Sea 135A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 135A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Ignition Protected, Weatherproof & Manual On-Off Switching

DESCRIPTION
Integrated Switching and High-Current Circuit Protection
The Blue Sea 187-Series 135A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers reliable overcurrent protection and manual switching in a single, robust unit. Engineered for demanding marine, RV, caravan, and off-grid electrical systems, this heavy-duty component consolidates your setup by eliminating the need for a separate isolation switch and fuse holder. By bringing both control and protection to a single panel-mounted point, it streamlines wiring layouts and reduces potential failure points in high-amperage DC circuits.
Engineered for Safety in Harsh Environments
When managing high-current loads up to 135A, inferior protection devices can suffer from voltage drop, nuisance tripping, or thermal failure under sustained loads. The 187-Series is built to mitigate these risks. Featuring a thermally responsive bi-metal blade, it reacts accurately to overcurrent conditions while tolerating temporary, normal load fluctuations.
Crucially, this unit is ignition protected, making it safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats, in engine bays, or within battery compartments where flammable gases may accumulate. Its sealed, weatherproof housing resists moisture, salt spray, and dust ingress, ensuring dependable operation in exposed marine cockpits, 4WD canopies, and off-grid power enclosures.
Key Features and Benefits
- Dual-Function Design: Combines manual on-off circuit switching with reliable thermal overcurrent protection in one compact device.
- Trip-Free Mechanism: Internal safety design ensures the breaker will trip during a fault current condition even if the manual lever is physically held in the ON position.
- Clear Visual Status: The large, single yellow reset lever provides immediate visual confirmation of whether the circuit is live, manually switched off, or tripped.
- Heavy-Duty Terminal Clearance: Ample clearance around the terminal studs easily accommodates heavy-gauge wire lugs required for 135A current paths.
- Flush Panel Mounting: Waterproof recessed mounting holes allow for a clean, professional installation on control panels and switchboards.
- Ignition Protected: Certified safe for marine engine rooms and spaces containing explosive fumes.
Application Considerations and Installation
The panel-mount form factor is ideal for main DC distribution panels, inverter feeds, windlass controls, bow thrusters, and high-output charging systems. The recessed mounting holes provide a neat finish while maintaining the environmental seal of the housing. Please note an important operational exclusion: do not use this breaker as a regular manual switch where high inrush currents are expected, as repeated switching under heavy surge loads can prematurely wear the internal contacts.
Upgrade Your DC System Protection
Protect your high-draw appliances and cabling with marine-grade hardware designed for longevity. Add the Blue Sea 187-Series 135A Thermal Circuit Breaker to your system for safe, consolidated circuit management on the water or off the grid.
