Blue Sea 12V/24V 450A L Series Solenoid
Blue Sea 12V/24V 450A L Series Solenoid
IP67 Hermetically Sealed, Ignition Protected & M8 Terminal Studs

DESCRIPTION
High-Capacity Remote Battery Switching for Marine and Off-Grid Power Systems
Managing high-current electrical loads requires switching hardware that can handle substantial amperage without introducing excessive voltage drop or thermal stress. The Blue Sea 12V/24V 450A L Series Solenoid is engineered to provide reliable, remote-activated switching for demanding 12V and 24V DC electrical systems. Designed for marine vessels, heavy-duty commercial vehicles, and complex off-grid setups, this 450A class solenoid allows installers to locate the main switching unit close to the battery bank while controlling it from a convenient helm or dashboard location.
By positioning the solenoid near the power source, you significantly reduce the length of heavy-gauge battery cables required in the circuit. Activation is managed via a simple, low-amperage ON-OFF switch (not included) using lightweight control wiring, which simplifies installation, reduces system weight, and lowers material costs across the entire electrical fit-out.
Engineered for Harsh Marine and Engine Room Environments
Unlike standard automotive relays that can corrode, weld shut, or pose a fire hazard in enclosed spaces, the Blue Sea L Series Solenoid is built specifically for severe service conditions. The unit features an IP67 sealed housing with hermetically sealed, vapourproof contacts. This prevents moisture, salt spray, and corrosive atmospheric gases from degrading the internal switching mechanism over time.
Safety is paramount when installing high-current electrical components near fuel sources. This solenoid is fully ignition protected, meeting strict SAE J1171 and ISO 8846 standards. It is safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats and within engine rooms where explosive fumes may be present, effectively mitigating the risk of stray sparks igniting ambient vapours.
Key Features and Technical Advantages
- Dual Voltage Compatibility: Automatically supports both 12V and 24V DC systems, offering flexibility for diverse marine, RV, and industrial architectures.
- Integrated Coil Control: Internal circuitry regulates the coil current, which significantly minimises heat generation and reduces parasitic amperage draw when the solenoid is engaged for extended periods.
- Hermetically Sealed Contacts: Vapourproof construction within an IP67-rated enclosure protects against water ingress and internal contact oxidation.
- Heavy-Duty M8 Terminal Studs: Dual M8 threaded terminals accommodate substantial ring lugs and heavy-gauge cabling for secure, low-resistance connections.
- Ignition Protected Design: Certified to SAE J1171 and ISO 8846 standards for safe deployment in petrol engine compartments and marine bilges.
- Reinforced Mounting Base: Features brass-lined mounting holes that provide secure, vibration-resistant installation on bulkheads or electrical panels.
Superior Thermal and Energy Efficiency
A common issue with conventional electromechanical solenoids is continuous coil heating, which drains house batteries and accelerates component fatigue. The L Series addresses this through its integrated coil control technology. Once the initial pull-in phase is complete, the internal controller steps down the holding current. This keeps the unit cool during continuous operation and preserves valuable battery capacity in off-grid or marine house banks.
Typical Applications
Whether you are designing a new electrical system from the ground up or upgrading existing switching gear, this remote battery solenoid is suited for a wide variety of high-load applications:
- Remote isolation of house and start battery banks in marine vessels, caravans, and motorhomes
- High-current switching for bow thrusters, anchor windlasses, and hydraulic pumps
- Managing primary power distribution in 12V or 24V industrial vehicles and mobile service trucks
- Safely isolating large inverter chargers or sub-panels from the main battery bus
Upgrade Your High-Current Switching System
Ensure your electrical system is protected against moisture, vibration, and thermal overload. Add the Blue Sea 12V/24V 450A L Series Solenoid to your setup today for dependable, remote-controlled power management in any demanding environment.
