Blue Sea 12V 120A ATD Solenoid Timer Relay

DESCRIPTION

Versatile 4-in-1 Battery Management and Protection for 12V Electrical Systems

Managing power loads and protecting batteries from excessive discharge is critical in marine, automotive, and off-grid 12V electrical setups. The Blue Sea 12V 120A ATD Solenoid Timer Relay provides a consolidated, reliable solution for complex DC power distribution. Rather than installing multiple separate switches and isolators, this single high-capacity unit can be configured to operate in one of four distinct modes: Timer Disconnect, Low-Voltage Disconnect (LVD), Automatic Charging Relay (ACR), or standard Solenoid operation.

Engineered to handle continuous loads up to 120A in 12V DC systems, this heavy-duty unit simplifies wiring architectures while safeguarding starting and auxiliary battery banks against premature failure caused by parasitic loads or operator oversight.

Configurable Operating Modes

The primary advantage of the Blue Sea ATD (Automatic Timer Disconnect) is its adaptability to different electrical system requirements. Installers can configure the relay to perform the exact task needed for their specific application:

  • Timer Disconnect: A 12V trigger signal (such as an ignition feed) engages the relay to supply battery power to connected equipment. Once the signal is removed, an integrated countdown timer activates, automatically disconnecting the load after a user-selected interval ranging from 15 minutes to 4 hours. This is ideal for running two-way radios, work lights, or telemetry equipment for a set duration after a vehicle or vessel is shut down.
  • Low-Voltage Disconnect (LVD): Following the removal of the 12V trigger signal, the unit actively monitors the battery bank. If the voltage drops to a critical threshold, the relay automatically opens to disconnect non-essential loads, preserving enough capacity to start the engine and preventing damaging deep discharges. For enhanced security, the LVD function can operate concurrently with the timer mode, disconnecting loads early if battery voltage drops before the preset time expires.
  • Automatic Charging Relay (ACR): Configured as an ACR, the device manages dual battery systems by automatically combining battery banks during charging cycles and isolating them when charging ceases. Featuring a single-side sensing design that monitors the start battery voltage, this mode is particularly well suited for charging AGM auxiliary batteries or house banks that are significantly larger than the primary starting battery.
  • Standard Solenoid: For straightforward remote switching applications, the relay can be set to connect or disconnect heavy 12V loads instantaneously in response to an external 12V switch or ignition signal without any time delay.

Key Features and System Benefits

  • High-Current Capacity: Rated for 120A continuous operation, making it suitable for demanding 12V DC circuits, sub-panels, and dual battery setups.
  • Four-in-One Functionality: Consolidates Timer Disconnect, LVD, ACR, and Solenoid capabilities into one compact footprint, reducing inventory requirements for installers and simplifying system upgrades.
  • Adjustable Delay Settings: Customise post-ignition runtime between 15 minutes and 4 hours to match your operational needs.
  • Dual-Layer Battery Protection: Combine timer and low-voltage sensing modes to ensure auxiliary electronics never flatten your battery bank unexpectedly.
  • Single-Side Sensing ACR Logic: Prioritises start battery monitoring, ensuring reliable isolation and charge sharing with large auxiliary banks.

Why Upgrade to a Programmable Battery Relay?

Standard mechanical relays and basic voltage-sensitive relays often lack the flexibility required for modern 12V fit-outs. In commercial fleet vehicles, emergency service rigs, 4WDs, and marine vessels, electronics frequently need to remain active briefly after the engine is turned off, without risking a flat battery the next morning. By integrating voltage monitoring with precise time-delay disconnection, this unit mitigates the risk of stranded vehicles and costly battery replacements caused by accidental deep cycling.

Configure Your 12V Power System Today

Whether you are building a dual battery system with a large AGM house bank or automating load shedding in a work vehicle, the Blue Sea 120A ATD Solenoid Timer Relay delivers dependable, configurable control. Add this multi-function relay to your setup for streamlined installation and reliable battery protection.

SPECIFICATIONS

SpecificationValue
Rated current120A
Operating voltage12VDC
Timer range15 minutes to 4 hours
Configurable functionsTimer disconnect, low-voltage disconnect, automatic charging relay, solenoid
Timer disconnectA 12V signal triggers the relay to connect battery power to devices. When the signal is removed, the timer disconnects devices after a preset time.
Low-voltage disconnectA 12V signal triggers the relay to connect battery power to devices. After the signal is removed, the device senses low battery voltage and automatically disconnects devices. Low-voltage disconnect can be used with timer disconnect and can disconnect devices before the preset time.
Automatic charging relayAutomatically combines two batteries when charging and isolates them when discharging. Single-side sensing monitors the start battery voltage.
Auxiliary battery suitabilityIdeal for auxiliary batteries that are AGM or significantly larger than the start battery.
Solenoid operationA 12V signal connects or disconnects the relay without any time delay.
