DESCRIPTION
Blue Sea Systems Analog Micro AC Ammeter: Precision Current Monitoring for Marine and Off-Grid Panels
Compact and Safe AC Current Measurement for 240V AC Systems
Monitoring alternating current draw is critical for preventing overloaded breakers, managing inverter loads, and protecting onboard generators. The Blue Sea Systems Micro AC Ammeter provides a reliable, continuous visual readout of AC consumption up to 50A. Designed specifically for marine switchboards, caravan electrical cabinets, and off-grid control panels, this compact analog gauge delivers immediate insight into your power usage without relying on complex digital interfaces or external display power.
Unlike standard inline meters that require routing heavy-gauge high-voltage wiring directly to the dashboard, this unit utilizes an inductive current transformer coil. The AC load wire simply passes through the center of the included sensing coil, which steps down the current to a safe, low-level signal for the meter face. This isolated design reduces installation complexity, minimizes voltage drop, and improves safety behind your instrument panel.
Engineered for Safety and Installation Simplicity
When working with 240V AC shore power or high-output inverters (compatible with systems up to 480V AC), keeping high-current conductors away from the helm or living quarters is essential. The included current transformer coil uses a 1:1000 ratio, converting a full 50A AC load into a mere 50mA AC signal at the gauge. This allows you to run lightweight sensing wires from your main AC distribution trunk to the meter location, saving space in tight wiring conduits.
- Non-Invasive Sensing Coil: Pass the primary AC conductor through the coil without cutting or terminating high-amperage cables directly to the back of the display.
- Compact 2 inch (50.80mm) Faceplate: Fits neatly into crowded marine dashboards, custom switch panels, and RV control centers while maintaining high legibility.
- High-Visibility Analog Scale: Features a clear white-on-black dial and a bright indicator needle for instant, at-a-glance load assessment in varying light conditions.
- Front Calibration Adjustment: Equipped with an accessible zero-adjustment screw on the faceplate to ensure accurate baseline readings before operation.
- Simple 2-Wire Connection: Draws power directly from the sensing coil, requiring no separate DC power supply to move the needle.
Reducing Electrical Risks in Harsh Environments
Inferior current meters often suffer from needle bounce, thermal drift, or require hazardous direct-wiring methods that introduce unnecessary failure points into an AC system. Constructed to meet the demanding standards of marine and mobile applications, this Blue Sea Systems gauge reduces the risk of nuisance tripping on shore power pedestals and protects sensitive inverter circuits from sustained overloads.
By providing a real-time view of how much current appliances like air conditioners, water heaters, and battery chargers are drawing, operators can actively manage their energy consumption. The integrated front mounting screws allow for a secure, vibration-resistant panel installation suitable for offshore vessels and touring off-road vehicles.
Ideal Applications for 0 to 50A AC Monitoring
- Marine Shore Power & Generators: Monitor total AC load on yachts and workboats to prevent tripping marina breakers or overloading onboard gensets.
- Caravan & RV Inverter Systems: Track the AC output of high-capacity inverters when running heavy domestic appliances off-grid.
- Off-Grid Cabins & Skids: Integrate into custom AC distribution boards for reliable, power-independent load tracking.
- Mobile Workstations & Service Trucks: Keep an eye on compressor, welder, and power tool consumption during field operations.
