Blue Sea 0–50A DC Ammeter with Shunt
Blue Sea 0–50A DC Ammeter with Shunt
Analogue Panel Gauge with 4-Wire Connection & 12V/24V Backlight

DESCRIPTION
Reliable Analogue Current Monitoring for Marine and Off-Grid DC Systems
Maintaining visibility over your electrical system's amperage draw or charge rate is critical for protecting battery banks and diagnosing electrical loads. The Blue Sea 0-50A DC Ammeter provides dependable, real-time current tracking for 12V and 24V electrical architectures. Supplied complete with an external DC shunt, this analogue gauge allows system builders and technicians to monitor moderate current circuits safely, without the need to route heavy-gauge, high-current cabling directly behind the dashboard or control panel.
Simplified 4-Wire Installation and Shunt Integration
Traditional inline ammeters require thick battery cables to be run all the way to the display unit, which increases voltage drop, adds weight, and creates potential safety hazards behind the instrument cluster. By utilising the included external shunt, the main current path remains close to your batteries or main distribution busbars. A simple 4-wire connection links the shunt to the meter, simultaneously transmitting the current sensing signal and supplying operational power to the gauge itself. This streamlined wiring approach reduces installation complexity, minimises cable clutter, and lowers the risk of high-resistance faults in tight console spaces.
Clear Visibility in All Lighting Conditions
Designed for rapid visual assessment, the traditional white dial face features crisp black incremental markings and a high-contrast indicator needle. For effortless nighttime navigation in marine vessels or evening monitoring in off-grid caravans, the translucent meter face includes built-in backlighting. Separate 12V and 24V DC connections allow you to wire the illumination directly into your existing dash or panel lighting switch, ensuring clear legibility in low-light environments without draining power unnecessarily during the day. An accessible front-facing zero-adjustment screw also allows for precise calibration of the needle post-installation.
Key Features and System Benefits
- Complete Monitoring Kit: Supplied with a matched external DC shunt for accurate 0-50A current measurement straight out of the box.
- Streamlined 4-Wire Setup: Draws both meter power and sensing data directly from the shunt connection, keeping heavy-duty cables away from the control panel.
- Dual-Voltage Backlighting: Features dedicated 12V and 24V DC illumination terminals for seamless integration into standard automotive, marine, and RV electrical systems.
- High-Contrast Analogue Display: White dial face with clear incremental markings and a fine-tuning zero adjustment screw for immediate, reliable readings.
- Secure Panel Mounting: Engineered with integrated screw points for a solid, vibration-resistant installation in mobile and marine switchboards.
Ideal Applications for 0-50A Current Tracking
While modern digital battery monitors are complex, a dedicated analogue ammeter offers immediate, at-a-glance verification of circuit performance without scrolling through menus. This 50A unit is particularly well-suited for:
- Monitoring the output of solar charge controllers or DC-DC battery chargers in caravans, camper trailers, and 4WD dual-battery setups.
- Tracking alternator charging currents or specific sub-panel loads on yachts, fishing boats, and commercial marine vessels.
- Replacing ageing or failed gauges in classic vehicle restorations, industrial machinery, or standalone generator control boxes.
- Observing dedicated high-draw appliances such as watermakers, air compressors, or 12V/24V refrigeration banks.
Upgrade Your Electrical Control Panel
Equip your vessel, recreational vehicle, or off-grid power system with dependable current visibility. Add this Blue Sea Systems analogue ammeter and shunt kit to your setup for straightforward, safe, and accurate DC load monitoring.
