DESCRIPTION
High-Precision Blue Sea Systems Digital DC Ammeter for Marine and Off-Grid Power
Reliable Current Monitoring from -500A to +500A with Included Shunt
Accurate current monitoring is essential for maintaining the health and longevity of your battery banks and electrical architecture. This Blue Sea Systems digital DC ammeter delivers precise amperage readings across a wide range from -500A to +500A, allowing you to track both charging inputs and high-current discharging loads in real time. Supplied complete with an external 500A 50mV current shunt, it provides a comprehensive solution for managing complex 12V, 24V, and 36V DC electrical systems in marine vessels, caravans, RVs, and off-grid setups.
Unlike basic analogue gauges that only offer rough estimates and suffer from mechanical wear, this digital ammeter provides fine resolution down to 0.1A for currents under 100A. This level of precision helps you identify parasitic draws, verify solar or alternator charging performance, and calculate the true net amperage flowing in and out of your auxiliary battery system.
Engineered for Harsh Environments and Low Power Consumption
Designed specifically to withstand demanding marine and mobile environments, this gauge features a splashproof front face and a durable threaded housing with a heavy-duty locking nut. The secure rear mounting mechanism resists vibration in rough seas or corrugated off-road conditions, fitting cleanly into standard 50.8mm (2 inch) circular panel cutouts.
In off-grid and battery-dependent setups, every milliwatt counts. To minimise parasitic battery drain when the system is not actively being observed, the unit features a manual sleep mode that blanks the display for maximum power conservation. When active, the bright 9/16" (Approx. 14.29mm) red LED characters offer exceptional visibility in both direct sunlight and pitch-black cabins, with an integrated front dimmer button allowing you to cycle through three brightness levels to prevent night blindness at the helm or in sleeping quarters.
- Complete Monitoring Kit: Includes a matched 500A 50mV DC shunt for immediate integration into heavy-duty battery circuits.
- Wide Voltage Compatibility: Operates seamlessly on 8V to 50V DC power supplies, making it suitable for 12V, 24V, and 36V systems.
- Customisable Visibility: Features a high-contrast 3-digit LED display with 3 adjustable brightness levels and a power-saving manual sleep mode.
- Rugged Marine-Grade Build: Splashproof front bezel and vibration-resistant threaded locking collar ensure longevity in tough Australian conditions.
- High Accuracy: Measures within 0.5% accuracy to protect expensive lithium or AGM battery banks from unexpected depletion or overcurrent events.
Installation Considerations and Circuit Compatibility
To ensure safe and accurate operation, it is important to note how this meter integrates into your wiring loom. In its standard configuration, this digital ammeter operates on the negative side of the circuit only. The included 500A shunt should be installed in the negative return path to accurately read total system loads or battery flow.
If your specific application requires monitoring individual positive-side sources, such as dedicated alternator outputs, solar charge controllers, or specific high-draw positive circuits, an optional Blue Sea Shunt Shifter (sold separately) is required. This flexibility allows system builders and marine electricians to adapt the gauge to virtually any custom dashboard or main distribution panel.
Ideal Applications
- Marine Vessels: Monitor house battery banks, bow thrusters, winches, and charging systems from the helm or cabin switchboard.
- Caravans and Motorhomes: Track high-draw inverter loads alongside solar and DC-DC charging inputs.
- 4WD Canopy Setups: Keep a close eye on dual-battery system performance in rugged touring environments.
- Industrial and Off-Grid Equipment: Reliable current tracking for remote telemetry, mobile workstations, and backup power supplies.
