DESCRIPTION

Reliable Analog AC Voltage Monitoring for Marine and Off-Grid Electrical Panels

Maintaining stable alternating current (AC) voltage is critical for protecting sensitive appliances, onboard electronics, and electrical infrastructure. This analog AC voltmeter provides continuous, real-time monitoring of electrical systems operating within the 0 to 150V AC range. Designed specifically for integration into custom switchboards, marine power distribution panels, and off-grid inverter setups, this gauge delivers immediate visual feedback without the complexity of multi-menu digital displays.

Streamlined 2-Wire Installation

Traditional panel meters often require separate wiring harnesses for internal backlighting or operational power, complicating behind-the-dash layouts. This unit simplifies the installation process by utilising a direct 2-wire connection to the AC active (hot) and neutral lines. The meter simultaneously senses the system voltage and powers its internal mechanism from the exact same connection. Drawing a minimal 1mA of current, it places virtually zero parasitic load on your power supply while eliminating the need for auxiliary DC power feeds.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Clear 5V Increments: The high-contrast dial face is clearly graduated in 5V steps with a precision pointer, allowing for rapid, at-a-glance status checks even in dimly lit engine rooms or utility lockers.
  • Self-Powered Operation: Senses and operates directly from the measured AC source, reducing wiring clutter and installation time.
  • Front-Accessible Calibration: Equipped with a manual zero-adjust screw on the bezel to maintain pointer accuracy over long-term service.
  • Compact Panel Footprint: Requires a standard 1-7/8" (approx. 47.6mm) circular mounting cutout with a clean 2-5/8" (approx. 66.7mm) overall face width.
  • Low Power Consumption: Ultra-low 1mA draw ensures system efficiency is never compromised during continuous monitoring.

Risk Reduction in Demanding Environments

Unmonitored AC power sources, such as portable generators, aging shore power pedestals, or off-grid inverters, can experience voltage sags (brownouts) or sudden spikes. Operating air conditioners, refrigeration units, or battery chargers under unstable voltage conditions risks premature component failure and overheated wiring. Unlike lower-tier alternatives that may suffer from sticking needles, poor damping, or rapid calibration drift in high-vibration environments, this dedicated panel meter offers dependable mechanical stability. It provides system operators with the early warning needed to disconnect sensitive loads before voltage anomalies cause permanent equipment damage.

Typical Applications

While optimized for 110V to 120V AC nominal systems, the 0 to 150V scale makes this gauge highly versatile across a wide range of electrical diagnostic and monitoring scenarios:

  • Marine Vessels: Monitoring imported 110V/120V shore power or onboard marine generator output on boats and yachts.
  • RV and Caravan Systems: Tracking inverter output stability in imported North American motorhomes, fifth-wheelers, or specialized mobile workspaces.
  • Industrial and Workshop Equipment: Monitoring step-down isolation transformers (such as 240V to 110V site transformers) and test bench power supplies.
  • Off-Grid Cabins: Keeping a dedicated visual check on backup generator performance during peak load testing.
