Blue Sea 0–150A DC Ammeter with Shunt
Blue Sea 0–150A DC Ammeter with Shunt
Analogue Panel Gauge with 4-Wire Sensing & 12V/24V Backlit Face

DESCRIPTION
Precision High-Current Monitoring for Marine and Off-Grid DC Systems
Maintaining complete visibility over your electrical system's current draw is essential for protecting battery banks and diagnosing electrical loads. The Blue Sea Systems 0-150A DC Ammeter provides reliable, real-time analogue current indication for demanding marine, caravan, RV, and off-grid power setups. By utilising an external DC shunt (included), this meter allows you to monitor heavy loads up to 150A without routing bulky, high-amperage battery cables directly behind your dashboard or control panel.
Safe and Simplified Four-Wire Shunt Architecture
Unlike basic in-line ammeters that require running thick gauge wiring to the display unit, a shunt-based ammeter isolates the high-current path from the user interface. The included external shunt installs directly into the main negative or positive circuit, while a simple four-wire connection links the shunt to the back of the meter. This intelligent configuration allows the gauge to both sense the voltage drop across the shunt and draw its operating power from the same connection, reducing installation complexity, minimising voltage drop across long cable runs, and mitigating fire risks behind your switchboard.
Clear Visibility in All Lighting Conditions
Designed for practical use in wheelhouses, cabin interiors, and vehicle dashboards, this analogue DC ammeter features a clear, high-contrast pointer against a sharp 0 to 150A measurement scale. For night navigation or dimly lit battery compartments, the backlit meter face ensures effortless readability. The backlighting is powered via separate 12V or 24V DC connections, giving system designers the flexibility to wire the gauge illumination directly into the vessel or vehicle dash light circuit independent of the main shunt sensing wires.
Key Features and Benefits
- High-Capacity 0-150A Scale: Accurately tracks heavy DC loads, alternator outputs, or charging currents in high-demand electrical systems.
- External DC Shunt Included: Keeps heavy-duty cabling close to the battery bank, improving safety and simplifying panel wiring.
- Streamlined 4-Wire Connection: Draws both current sensing data and meter operating power directly from the shunt connection.
- Dual-Voltage Backlighting: Features dedicated 12V or 24V DC terminals for seamless integration with existing dashboard illumination switches.
- Front-Accessible Zero Adjustment: Equipped with a centred adjustment screw on the bezel for straightforward pointer calibration.
- Secure Panel Mounting: Built with integrated mounting hardware to ensure a stable fit in high-vibration marine and mobile environments.
Why Choose a Dedicated Analogue Ammeter?
While digital multi-monitors have their place, a dedicated analogue ammeter offers instantaneous visual feedback at a glance. Operators can immediately spot unusual load spikes, verify if high-draw appliances like winches, inverters, or watermakers are operating within expected parameters, and monitor system performance without scrolling through digital menus. Compared to unbranded alternatives that often suffer from pointer bounce and calibration drift, Blue Sea Systems instruments are engineered for long-term stability in harsh marine and mobile environments.
Ideal Applications
- Marine Vessels: Monitor house battery loads, windlasses, thrusters, and high-output marine alternators from the helm or navigation station.
- Caravans and Motorhomes: Keep track of 12V or 24V auxiliary power consumption, inverter draw, and DC-DC charging systems.
- Service Vehicles and 4WDs: Observe heavy-duty accessory loads such as air compressors, winches, and work lighting arrays.
- Off-Grid Cabins and Skids: Provide a permanent, easy-to-read visual reference point on main DC distribution enclosures.
