Blue Sea 0–100A DC Ammeter with Shunt

DESCRIPTION

Precision Analogue DC Current Monitoring for 12V and 24V Systems

Maintaining an accurate awareness of your electrical load is vital for the longevity and reliability of any off-grid, marine, or mobile power system. The Blue Sea 0-100A DC Ammeter provides dependable, real-time current monitoring for loads up to 100A. Supplied complete with a matching external DC shunt, this analogue panel meter allows system operators to observe amperage draw or charging input at a glance, helping to prevent circuit overloads and battery depletion.

Designed for seamless integration into marine switchboards, caravan control panels, and industrial DC distributions, this unit features a high-contrast white dial encased in a durable black mounting bezel. Unlike basic direct-read gauges that require routing heavy-duty cables directly behind the dashboard, the included shunt allows the heavy current-carrying conductors to remain safely in the main battery or distribution bay.

Streamlined 4-Wire Shunt Connection and Safety

Routing high-amperage cabling through bulkheads and into tight helm or cabin consoles increases voltage drop and introduces potential fire hazards. By utilising an external shunt, this DC ammeter keeps high-current cables short and contained. A simple 4-wire connection links the shunt to the back of the meter, providing both the millivolt current-sensing signal and the operating power required for the meter movement itself. This configuration simplifies wiring harnesses and significantly reduces installation risk compared to unshunted gauges.

Key Features and Benefits

  • 0-100A DC Measurement Range: Ideal for monitoring high-output alternators, solar charge controllers, inverters, or main DC distribution feeds.
  • External DC Shunt Included: Ensures accurate current sensing without running heavy-gauge battery cables to the instrument panel.
  • Simplified 4-Wire Hookup: Draws both meter operating power and sensing signals directly from the shunt connection for reliable operation.
  • Dual-Voltage Backlit Dial: Features separate connections for 12V or 24V DC backlighting, ensuring clear visibility during night navigation or in dimly lit battery compartments.
  • Mechanical Zero Adjustment: Equipped with a front-accessible calibration screw for precise zero-point alignment.
  • Analogue Readout: Delivers instant, lag-free needle response to fluctuating electrical loads with a crisp white face and clear scale markings.

Independent Backlighting for Low-Light Environments

Visibility in low-light conditions is critical for marine vessels and off-grid setups. The meter face is engineered for rear illumination and includes dedicated terminals for a 12V or 24V DC backlight supply. Because the backlight circuit is isolated from the shunt sensing wires, you can wire the illumination directly into your vessel's navigation light switch or vehicle dash dimmer circuit, conserving battery power when illumination is not required.

Applications and System Integration

Built to the high engineering standards expected from Blue Sea Systems, this 100A ammeter is suited for harsh marine and mobile environments where vibration and fluctuating temperatures can compromise lesser instruments. It is an excellent fit for:

  • Marine electrical panels on yachts, powerboats, and commercial vessels
  • 4WD dual-battery canopies, camper trailers, and off-grid caravans
  • Stand-alone solar power stations and remote telemetry enclosures
  • Monitoring output from DC-DC chargers, wind generators, and auxiliary alternators

Upgrade your electrical distribution panel with the Blue Sea 0-100A DC Ammeter today to ensure safe, accurate, and visible current monitoring across your 12V or 24V power system.
