DESCRIPTION
Hellermann Tyton Blue M6 Pre-Insulated Ring Terminal: Reliable Double-Grip Connection for 1.5–2.5 mm² Cable
Engineered for High-Vibration Environments
The Hellermann Tyton RD2-6 Blue M6 Ring Lug is a precision-manufactured pre-insulated terminal designed to deliver secure, long-lasting electrical connections in demanding applications. Its double-grip crimp design provides a robust mechanical and electrical bond, making it an ideal choice for automotive wiring, marine electrical systems, industrial control panels, and any installation subject to constant movement or vibration.
Unlike generic terminals that rely on a single crimp point, the Hellermann Tyton double-grip system clamps both the conductor and the insulation, significantly reducing the risk of wire pull-out and fatigue failure. This three-piece manufacturing process ensures consistent quality and performance across every terminal in the pack.
Colour-Coded Vinyl Insulation for Fast, Accurate Installation
The blue PVC insulation sleeve is colour-coded to the industry-standard 1.5–2.5 mm² conductor size range, allowing for instant visual identification and reducing assembly errors. The vinyl material is rated for continuous operation at +75 °C, providing reliable insulation in engine bays, machinery, and other elevated-temperature locations. The flared entry of the insulation barrel simplifies wire insertion, speeding up production and field repairs.
Key Features at a Glance
- Double-grip crimp secures both conductor and insulation for superior vibration resistance
- Colour-coded blue insulation for quick identification of 1.5–2.5 mm² cable
- 6.4 mm stud hole (M6 compatible) suits common automotive and industrial stud sizes
- Copper body with tin plating for excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance
- Rated to 600 V and 27 A maximum for versatile low-voltage applications
- Supplied in resealable packaging to keep terminals organised and protected
Built for Consistent Performance
Each RD2-6 ring terminal is manufactured from high-conductivity copper (CU) with a tin-plated finish, ensuring low electrical resistance and long-term protection against oxidation. The PVC insulation is flame-retardant and resistant to common automotive fluids, contributing to a durable connection in harsh under-bonnet and outdoor environments.
With a maximum current rating of 27 A and a maximum voltage of 600 V, this terminal is well suited for 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V DC systems, as well as many AC control circuits. Note typical de-rating factors apply based on installation conditions and ambient temperature.
Applications Where Reliability Matters
The Hellermann Tyton Blue M6 Ring Lug is a trusted component in:
- Automotive and 4WD electrical systems – auxiliary lighting, fuse blocks, and accessory wiring
- Marine and boating – navigation equipment, bilge pumps, and switch panels
- Caravan and RV power setups – battery connections, solar regulators, and inverters

Reduce Rework and Field Failures
Loose or poorly crimped terminals are a leading cause of intermittent faults and electrical fires. The Hellermann Tyton double-grip design mitigates this risk by providing a gas-tight crimp that maintains contact integrity even under thermal cycling and mechanical stress. Choosing a terminal engineered to IEC 60352-2 crimping standards helps ensure compliance with professional installation requirements.
