Blue Sea 120VAC 30A 30mA Trip 2 Pole Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter
Blue Sea 120VAC 30A 30mA Trip 2 Pole Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter
Front-Panel Mount - ABYC E-11 & UL 1500 Compliant Shore Power Safety

DESCRIPTION
Comprehensive Whole-Boat Shore Power Protection
Managing AC power in a marine environment requires robust safety protocols to prevent electrical hazards and equipment damage. The Blue Sea Systems ELCI (Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter) provides critical whole-boat protection for vessels utilising 120VAC shore power distribution systems. Engineered to serve as the main shore power disconnect, this specialised circuit breaker combines reliable overcurrent protection with sensitive ground fault detection in a single, integrated unit.
Unlike standard household circuit breakers that are not built to withstand the moisture, vibration, and corrosive elements of life at sea, this marine-grade ELCI is purpose-built for onboard electrical systems. By continuously monitoring current balance through an internal sensing coil, the unit rapidly disconnects power if it detects current leaking to ground, helping to mitigate the risks of electric shock drowning (ESD) in surrounding waters and electrical fires aboard the vessel.
Dual-Action Safety and Compliance
A critical vulnerability in any marine AC system is the potential for AC ground faults, which can energise the boat's bonding system or underwater metals. This 2-pole ELCI addresses this risk by disconnecting both the AC hot (ungrounded) and neutral (grounded) conductors simultaneously. With a 30mA leakage trip threshold, it offers a vital layer of safety for the entire shore power system without being overly susceptible to nuisance tripping caused by normal cumulative background leakage from multiple onboard appliances.
Furthermore, the device functions as a dependable primary circuit breaker, automatically tripping in the event of a short circuit or sustained electrical overload. It is engineered to meet stringent marine standards, including ABYC E-11 for AC electrical systems on boats, and UL 1500 for external ignition protection, making it safe for installation in environments where flammable vapours may be present.
Key Features and Benefits
- Integrated Protection: Combines 30A overcurrent protection (overload and short circuit) with 30mA ground fault leakage sensing in one compact device.
- Two-Pole Switching: Simultaneously breaks both hot and neutral AC lines to ensure complete isolation of the boat's electrical system during a fault or manual shut-off.
- Marine-Grade Compliance: Fully aligns with ABYC E-11 shore power standards and meets UL 1500 external ignition protection requirements.
- Front-Panel Mounting: Features integrated threaded brass inserts for secure installation directly into compatible power distribution panels.
- User-Friendly Operation: Equipped with a main rocker switch for manual switching and clear trip indication, alongside a dedicated push-to-test button for routine monthly safety verification.
Engineered for Seamless Panel Integration
Designed specifically for front-panel mounting, this unit integrates cleanly into custom or pre-configured marine AC distribution panels. The inclusion of threaded brass mounting inserts ensures a secure mechanical fit that resists loosening from hull vibration and wave impact. The front interface provides immediate visual feedback of the circuit status and allows vessel operators to easily perform the recommended monthly ground fault verification using the integrated test button.
Important System Compatibility Note
Please note that this unit is specifically rated for 120VAC electrical systems (commonly found on imported North American vessels or specialist 120VAC marine setups) and is not suitable for standard Australian 230VAC/240VAC shore power configurations unless utilised downstream of an appropriate step-down isolation transformer.
Upgrade Your Marine Electrical Safety
Ensure your vessel's 120VAC shore power system meets high safety and compliance standards. Integrate the Blue Sea 30A Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter into your main AC distribution panel for dependable, whole-boat fault protection.
