Blue Sea 120A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 120A 187-Series Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Waterproof & Ignition Protected with M8 Studs & Manual Reset Switch

DESCRIPTION
Heavy-Duty 120A Circuit Protection and Switching for Demanding Environments
The Blue Sea 187-Series 120A Panel Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker delivers reliable overcurrent protection and convenient manual switching in a single, compact device. Engineered for high-amperage DC electrical systems, this breaker eliminates the need to install a separate battery switch and fuse holder. It is an ideal solution for safeguarding heavy-duty circuits in marine vessels, caravans, 4WDs, and off-grid power setups across Australia.
Engineered for Marine Safety and Reliability
Electrical faults in harsh environments require uncompromising safety hardware. This 187-Series breaker features an ignition-protected design, making it completely safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats and in compartments where flammable fumes may be present. Furthermore, its waterproof construction prevents moisture, salt spray, and dust ingress, significantly reducing the risk of internal corrosion and premature failure compared to standard automotive-grade alternatives.
At the core of its safety architecture is a trip-free mechanism. In the event of a sustained overcurrent or short circuit, the breaker will trip internally even if the external yellow reset lever is physically held in the "ON" position. This vital safety feature prevents catastrophic wire overheating and protects connected equipment from thermal damage.
Key Features and Benefits
- Dual-Function Design: Combines dependable 120A thermal circuit protection with manual on/off switching to save panel space and simplify wiring.
- Trip-Free Operation: Internal mechanism trips during a fault regardless of lever position, mitigating fire risks in high-current DC systems.
- Ignition Protected: Safe for installation in petrol engine compartments and enclosed battery lockers.
- Waterproof Construction: Sealed against water and dust ingress for long-term durability in exposed marine, RV, and 4WD environments.
- Robust M8 Stud Terminals: Heavy-duty 5/16" (M8) terminals support high-torque connections and provide generous clearance for large-gauge wire lugs.
- Clear Visual Indication: High-visibility yellow reset lever clearly displays trip status whether mounted vertically or horizontally.
- Clean Panel Integration: Recessed mounting holes ensure a neat, flush appearance on custom switch panels and dashboards.
Installation Advantages and Application Notes
Terminating heavy-gauge cables is straightforward thanks to the large clearance around the M8 terminal studs, which easily accommodate heavy-duty battery and inverter cable lugs. The robust stud design allows for high-torque tightening, ensuring low-resistance connections that will not vibrate loose on corrugated outback tracks or choppy waters. Whether mounted vertically or horizontally, the high-contrast 120A label and yellow lever allow for rapid circuit identification and status checks.
Application Note: While this unit provides convenient manual switching for isolation and maintenance, it is not recommended for use as a regular on/off switch in circuits where high inrush currents are expected, as repeated high-inrush switching may degrade the contact surfaces over time.
