Blue Sea 100A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Blue Sea 100A 187-Series Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker
Ignition Protected, Trip-Free Design & 5/16" (M8) Studs

DESCRIPTION
Heavy-Duty 100A DC Overcurrent Protection and Switching
Managing high-current DC electrical systems requires dependable overcurrent protection that will not fail under demanding conditions. The Blue Sea 187-Series 100A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker combines heavy-duty circuit protection and manual switching into a single, compact unit. Designed for marine vessels, 4WDs, caravans, and off-grid power setups, this component eliminates the need to wire a separate fuse block and battery isolation switch. By consolidating these functions, you reduce potential failure points, minimise voltage drop across unnecessary connections, and save valuable installation space.
Engineered for Harsh Marine and Automotive Environments
Unlike standard commercial circuit breakers that can corrode or cause hazards in enclosed spaces, the 187-Series is purpose-built for extreme environments. It features an ignition-protected design, making it completely safe for installation aboard petrol-powered boats, inside engine bays, or within enclosed battery compartments where flammable gases might accumulate. The robust, weatherproof housing seals out moisture, salt spray, and dust, ensuring reliable long-term operation in coastal and off-road conditions.
Key Features and Technical Benefits
- Combined Switching and Protection: Acts as both a 100A overcurrent fuse and a convenient manual disconnect switch for isolating battery banks or high-draw loads during maintenance.
- Trip-Free Mechanism: Internal safety engineering ensures the circuit breaker will trip during an electrical fault even if the reset lever is physically held in the ON position, preventing catastrophic wire damage or fire risks.
- Heavy-Gauge Terminal Clearance: Equipped with robust 5/16" (Approx. M8) stainless steel terminal studs that provide ample clearance for heavy-gauge wire lugs and support high-torque connections to prevent resistive heating.
- Clear Visual Status Indication: The high-visibility yellow reset lever provides immediate visual confirmation of the circuit status and can be oriented for either vertical or horizontal reading.
- Simple Surface Mounting: Pre-drilled mounting holes allow for straightforward installation onto flat panels, bulkheads, or distribution boards.
Reducing Electrical System Risks
Inferior circuit breakers often suffer from nuisance tripping, high internal resistance, or welded contacts during severe short circuits. The Blue Sea 187-Series mitigates these risks through precision thermal bi-metal engineering. When an overload occurs, the breaker responds predictably to protect your cabling and downstream electronics. Once the fault is cleared, power can be restored immediately via the reset lever without needing to source or carry spare replacement fuses.
Ideal Applications and Important Exclusions
This 100A thermal circuit breaker is well-suited for protecting main DC feed lines, high-output alternators, windlasses, bow thrusters, and DC-to-DC chargers in 12V, 24V, and 48V systems. However, please note a specific operational exclusion: do not use this breaker as a regular manual switch where high inrush currents are expected (such as repeatedly switching large inverters with uncharged internal capacitors under load), as frequent high-inrush switching can degrade the internal contacts over time.
Secure Your High-Current DC Circuits
Upgrade your electrical distribution system with marine-grade reliability. Add the Blue Sea 187-Series 100A Surface Mount Thermal Circuit Breaker to your setup today to ensure safe, compliant, and easily manageable power distribution for your boat, caravan, or off-grid vehicle.
