The polycrystalline solar cells used in the SXp series are electrically connected using ultra-thin copper wires that form a very fine mesh on the cell surface, resulting in thousands of contact points. This alternative to the standard bus-bar method allows a higher module power and increases the energy yield. This technology is optimally suited to flexible modules, due to its intrinsic insensitivity to microcracks, that are the most common cause of energy loss in solar modules. Another advantage is a reduced sensitiveness to shading, a quite important issue in marine and mobility applications. The new connection technology, together with the use of high efficiency polycrystalline silicon cells, makes SXp panels especially powerful and reliable.

As with all Solbianflex panels, only whole cells are used.  This means that the voltage increases with the panel wattage, whereas the current is the same for all panels.  For example the SXp60 has 17 cells in series giving just over 7V, whereas the SXp160 has 36 cells in series giving just over 18V.  The amps for both panels is 8.5Amp.  You will need a Genasun MPPT voltage boosting charge controller if you need to charge a battery that has a higher voltage than the panel, otherwise a Victron MPPT charge controller is recommended for boats where the panel Voltage (Vmp) is at least 50% above the battery nominal voltage*, ie, Vmp = 18V for a nominal 12V battery;   Vmp = 36V for a nominal 24V battery,  72V for a 48V battery (irrespective of the battery being lead-acid or lithium.   Otherwise a PWM charge controller is recommended where the Vmp is above the battery voltage but doesn't meet the required voltage for the MPPT to work.
