Adhesives and mounting tapes for installing flexible solar panels onto caravans, boats and trailers

Double-sided tape is recommended for adhering flexible solar panels to a caravan roof or boat deck or solid canopy.

The tapes below have been testedto ensure they are strong and highly elastic to minimise stress on the solar panel that can be caused by differential thermal expansion or movement. The tapes conforms to rough, textured surfaces and has a wide range of applications for joining, sealing waterproofing and vibration absorption.

RADpower Acrylic Very High Bond tape

This versatile and very strong tape is not only exellent quality but also excellent value.

The strength of this tape has been tested in-house under a variety of conditions including extreme cold and heat.

We recommend using very high bond tape to ensure the thermal expansion between the panels and the substrate is accommodated.

3M Very High Bond (VHB) tape

As well as roofs and decks 3M VHB tape can be used for vertical appications such as installing controllers/regulators and other equipment and flexible solar panels on the front section (bullnose) of motorhomes and trailers.

The strength of this tape has been tested in-house under a variety of conditions including extreme cold and heat.

We recommend using very high bond tape to ensure the thermal expansion between the panels and the substrate is accommodated.

Butyl High Bond double-sided mounting tape

The high bond Butyl tape is suitable for a strong bond on horizontal applications such as roofs and decks. The high water-resistant butyl rubber adhesive coated on a polyethylene net gives it dimensional stability with a siliconised white paper release liner. It should not be used for vertical applications such as fixing solr panels to the side of tool trailers of solar charge controllers to walls etc.

How to use very high bond tape

Cross-cut strips of twin wall polycarbonate allows air flow under the panel from any direction and the use of strips provides around 90% of the underside of the cells exposed directly to air circulation.

Tape is the most effective method of attaching the twinwall polycarbonate sheeting to the underside of the solar panel and to the RV, vehicle, boat surface.
