Lisa Blair braves antarctic weather

The January special price for the full kit is $895 incl GST

Furthest point from land

The 32-year-old has just passed Point Nemo, a point so far from land that the International Space Station is closer!  This is one lonely point in the ocean!

The trip is pushing Lisa to the limits but during her three years of planning she had time to think about every possible scenario she might face and how to survive and combat them.

‘The Yacht Shop’, operating since 1981, has five stores around Fiji managed from their main store, warehouse & head office near the capital of Suva at Lami town.  This store, and the other four stores at Vuda, Denarau, Savusavu & the Royal Suva Yacht Club, are part of the ‘Tradewinds Marine Group’, a private company owned by the Philp family.  The shops will be selling our product range including Solbian flexible panels made in Italy which are well known in the yachting community.

Our founder/owner Phil spent 5 days in Fiji with Colin Philp and provided training for Colin’s team.  Colin is the founding President of the Fiji Surfing Association and Fiji Islands Voyaging Society, and joint founder of Fiji’s lifejacket export manufacturing factory.  The Yacht Shops commitment to quality matches ours and we are excited to have them as part of the Solar 4 RVs / Solar 4 Boats team.

The Tradewinds Marine Group also operates two International Marina’s (Vuda and Savusavu), and builds the successful Islander brand fibreglass boats in Lami.

The Philp family are keen sailors, playing an integral role in many international ocean sport events in Fiji and have all competed at regional, World Championship and Olympic level.   Chairman Anthony C. Philp (President of the Fiji Yachting Association for 35 years), is the current President of the Oceania Sailing Federation whilst Director David Philp runs the Fibreglass Factory and was a board member of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji.  Director John Philp is the Vice President of the Fiji Surfing Association, and a founding Director of the Water Safety Council (Fiji) Ltd.

Lisa Blair is furthest point from land

Monday 6 March 2017

Lisa Blair is now 43 days into her journey to become the first woman to circumnavigate Antarctica solo, non-stop and unassisted and as her sponsor we are following her adventures and wishing her every success.

Our premium flexible solar panels and portable solar panels both with ETFE have been so popular we thought they deserved name recognition.

Our Lithium batteries will also carry the RADpower logo as will our own inventions such as the solar panel combiner with inbuilt diodes.

New Premium lightweight 150W portable solar panel with ETFE now available

Monday 9 January 2017

Our new premium lightweight (5.2kg), high efficiency 150W portable solar panels with ETFE top layer are now in stock.

We are excited to offer this superior product into Australia after investing significant time to its development and assessing several design prototypes.

Subsequently we feel this portable solar panel has features that truly make it the best portable solar panel on the market.

Three high efficiency 50W monocystaline flexible solar panels made with SunPower cells are encapsulated in a tough black canvas which fold into a neat carry case arrangement.  The backing is FR4 which is flame resistant and has excellent electrical insulating qualities.  There are support legs that fold out, each having eyelets for securing to the ground with pegs.  There are 10 eyelets to enable various configurations. Two metres of cable is pre-attached.

The solar panel's top clear layer is made of ETFE (Ethylene-Tetra-Fluoro-Ethylene) which is a high-strength fluorine polymer that is corrosion resistant, highly stain resistant, highly elastic, is easy-to-clean, has high light transmittance, and boasts long service life.  It will not discolour or degrade from exposure to environmental pollution, UV light, harsh chemicals or extreme temperature variations.  The surface is textured for extra robustness.

The portable can be sold individually (which includes a 5m extension cable) or in a kit with a quality Dutch brand Victron MPPT solar charge controller.

Devastating end to Lisa Blair's record attempt

Tuesday 4 April 2017

Lisa Blair's yacht mast snapped 895 nautical miles south of Cape Town in 40 knot winds and seven metre swells.  She made a pan-pan call signifying a problem with her vessel, but did not issued a mayday call for help.  Lisa is not injured.  She rigged up an emergency storm sail and was provided with fuel to motor into port.

Lisa Blair was on her 72nd day at sea attempting to be the first woman to circumnavigate Antarctica solo and unassisted in less than 100 days.   Our thoughts are with her.  She was so close - the disappointment must be unimaginable.

Strengthening relationships with suppliers in Hong Kong and China

Tuesday 18 April 2017

Owners Phil and Trish spent last week conducting visits to their solar panel and lithium battery suppliers. Factory tours of each facility were conducted followed by extensive discussions regarding product technical information, quality, research and development and future initiatives.

They met with CEOs, relationship managers, technical directors, and other staff and much information was shared to the benefit of all concerned. The amount of time they allocated and their hospitality was greatly appreciated.
